I had a strict religious upbringing, either midnight mass or mass on xmas day, with very few presents but I am sure I was far happier than the children are today, all most children seem to think of christmas as is a good reason to ask parents for expensive presents and try to out do their mates. I know a lot of parents that even take out loans to buy pressies for the children, thankfully mine where never over expectant and were happy most times with what ever Santa got them. Gosh I can remember thinking I was the cat the got the cream when I got a new coat for christmas it was the first time I hadn't had to have either my sisters one she had grown out of or one from a Jumble sale. What has happened to the real meaning of christmas how many of you go to church either midnight mass or on christmas day. I am sitting here thinking I would like to start doing that again, sadly its something I haven't been able to do for since my Dad died as it all seemed to make nonsense of it all, a good fun loving man dying so young, at least his humour lives on in me and my brother as those that have met my brother will know.

Im off to dads for the day this year. We fell out for quite a while before so this'll be the first Yule with him for a while! Ex is having the dog for the day bless him but I have to stay sober this year. Will have a full car coming home tho cuz my dad and step mum are buying the cot and pram for baby for me for xmas. Used to always get up xmas morning, sort pressies into piles, have 1 cuppa tea then straight onto the martini's for the whole day! When me and my ex (the nice one who Im best mates with lol) were together we had fillet steak xmas day for a change. Was lovely. Anyway its the rest of the festive period that bores me to death and to those of you on your own hope you try to have a good xmas. I cant wait for next year when my baby will be here to share it with me! Although he/she will probably prefer the wrapping paper! lol

TM - you cant copy and paste other's posts unless you do it in a specific way, otherwise it screws the site up. Fixed your post for you now though. Lula - I thought you knew what I do. :-) Go to www.mattdeemer.com and you'll see. Regarding the mass thing. I was brought up a strict roman catholic, having to go to mass on xmas day and every sunday. Then I grew up, and being a scientific person, I realised what a load of crap it was. Plus when you're forced to believe something, it makes you much more critical of it. I think that within the next couple of decades, there will be nobody going to church at all. The whole religion thing can be disproved through science, and most people dont want to worship some magical force that there is no scientific evidence of. I remember when I went to Lourdes in France on a pilgrimage! Everyone there is warped lol. Tell these people you see pigs flying with Mary on their back, and they'd believe you haha. Have a look at this site: http://zeitgeistmovie.com It’s a documentary in three parts: how all religions are based on the same astrologic facts the inside job of 9-11 how the global financial world is based on debt I've not seen it all, but it looks good and seems to make sense. Regarding what Christmas is about... yes originally religious, but now it's a time for families, sharing, caring and taking time out to look after fellow-man. People always go on about how it's lost it's meaning.... but so what?! As long as something good comes from it, then that's all that matters. Plus don't forget that Christmas will be banned in the UK soon! Was watching some people debate it on BBC the other day... it offends too many people in Britain, and so needs to be less high-profile aparently. haha! How pathetic. Roll on Christmas

I think the world has gone mad Matt...banning Christmas in UK---nothing surprises me nowadays...we have to be so PC its ridiculous...Im no racist or sexist...but things are so far out of proportion...people are too frightened to live their lives properly. I love Christmas, because it is the time of the year when I see family and friends and have a lovely time together...

I used to work with an Indian lad who absolutely loved christmas! He said that his lot were up for an excuse to party and they didn't care whos festival it was, He sent cards, his wife made us all scrummy indian sweets and samosas and we bought his kids prezzies. I think we should shoot the PC brigade as they often stir up hatred and trouble by coming up with such utter nonsense that then reflects badly on the ethnic groups they were alledgedly "protecting" from offence. Sorry but this countrys' foundations are set in christian beliefs and morals. People who come here mainly accept that and quite happily join in and likewise we respect thier festivals too. If I hear "winter festival" instead of christmas once more I'm going to slap the nearest dogooder I see! On a lighter note we are having a big family christmas, over sisters for lunch (if the cat lets us near the table!) then all of the local family over to us for tea and drunkeness! Hope you all have a great crimble and don't forget to stock up on extra bog rolls to cope with the over eating!!!
