I'd like clarity on this too please. Does this also mean that private messages aren't private because they are being checked for content ? If this is a site intended for people to meet others, how are you meant to do so without giving out details. And if you cannot give out your details what exactly are we paying for ? thanks

I remember Matt saying that if members have been chatting a while he's not too bothered about them swapping mail addys. It was the mass emailing of members, by those who aren't genuine, (spammers) which happened in the past that prompted the ban. Matt also said he doesn't read our mail but he gets notification of email addys in PMs and that's when he investigates WHY it's there. Did I remember correctly Matt?

Spot on kwak. Unfortunately some people take great delight in sending out spam and it's a pain in the backside and also some take great delight in sending abusive mail. Private messaging is the way to contact people until you have at least got to know them a bit, without giving out your email address. So, if you don't want to talk to them anymore at least you don't have to answer and you don't need to go down the route of changing your email address and spending the time letting all your contacts know you have changed email addresses. It's for your own safety and stops the Admin team getting swamped with complaint emails. Di.

At the end of the day its upto each member to use their own indiscretion on this matter. The problem is spammers, fakes & nonpaying members that use this as a way of getting email addy's out of people that do pay for use of the site.Basicly the paying members will end up having to pay more if it keeps happening, most of us arent stupid & can spot a fake a mile off.If you get along well with someone you're exchanging pm's with then Matt wont have a problem with it at all, after all,the idea of the site is for people to meet up with each other. So in answer to your post TAT as long as you're using the site as a paying member there really isnt a problem unless you're sending your addy out to everyone asking for their's,in which case, why havent you sent me one???

ur all correct. Its a combination of everything thats been said, and more. Some of the spammers post really convincing PMs to thousands of members. They sign up for 1 week at 99p, which gives them an advertising mailshot to thousands of our members. They will create a normal-looking profile of an average person, then send out a really convincing email to everyone they can saying... "Hi there, just been looking through the site and thought you looked interesting. I'd love to get to know you more so please email me at someaddress@signmeupforspam.com" Once you email that address - you're nakard! The person will sell your email address for a lot of money to mass-spamming companies. Plus your safety is of concern to me of course. Too many people have passed on their direct contact details to other members and then come running to me when they're being stalked by someone they cant get rid of. By using PMs, you have the option of blocking anyone you like and so is the safest method of contacting someone. Of course if you're about to get married to someone you met here, then I'd be surprised if you didn't have each other's phone numbers and email addresses! lol Hope this clarifies.
