If you make it around Sept then I'd be up for helping on this but can't in August.

I did Route 66 in May time and was 132f which is around 52c although it was freezing in death valley and rained on us in Las Vegas

Anytime September sounds good for me too, thank feck it will be cooler then too, Arizona/Nevada/Utah from May to August IS brutal with heat but at least its dry heat....

A quick question Matt. Are you proposing the full historic route from Chicago to Santa Monica, or a part of the whole route. I believe that the route now used by many operators is not exectly as the original route. It seems that Route 66 was decommissioined in the 1980's. My interest would be coast to coast.

Chicago to LA is the normal route around 2.5k miles. There is still a lot of route 66 either gone or in such a poor unused state you can't ride on it.

They are currently relaying some of it as I think they have finally gotten the idea people like us actually will pay to ride along it

Yes Matt its good for me, am just wondering how long peeps are wanting to go for?

Im happy with 3 weeks at the least and can manage more with work permitting.

Anything less than a fortnight is no good for exploring the US :)

Yea just waiting to gauge peoples' interest.

Also need a volunteer to coordinate the dates, names, liaise with the guys in the US etc.

I think I wont be able to make it. My plans for September include the KISS2 rally, a scuba diving trip to Oman and possibly a BM ride to Italy. Just wondering if the Italy thing should be postponed until next year maybe and put more attention on this US trip, seems quite popular

I'm doing BM organised run to Alps next year as main run (instead of Germany) Also tinkering with idea of Black forest as a smaller run in 2013 also
