Mixed smile and sadness, really...
I can pick open my M/C chain lock in less than three seconds, without disturbing the tilt-switch on the alarm.
For those that don't know, I pick locks for a hobby.
This acheivement is very good news for my skills, but very unsettling for motorcycle peace of mind!!!
Getting new plug leads for the car.
Man in shop: 'Is it petrol or diesel?'
(think about it...)
To be fair to the guy he realised his mistake right away, and we both had a good laugh.
Having my track tour of MIRA ready for my pass.
Also watching "VIP" Volkwagen customers trying to drive properly!
If you have ever seen a V10 Tourag slide round a skidpan at 20mph and the driver being utterly clueless you'll know what I mean.
The danger is that because they have driven round a proving ground they now probably think they can drive better than they went in.
Wills.
In the early 1970s I built a 1955 Triumph Thunderbird chop in my bedroom (The one in my profile pics). Unfortunatelly, I didn't realise how big it was (I had a very big bedroom). When it was virtually finished four of my mates came round to help me get it down to the back yard. It wheeled along the landing but we couldn't get it around the corner to the stairs so we had to take the front end out, lift it up onto it's back wheel and guide it to the top and down the stairs. My folks were not pleased as the lower front of the frame took out about a foot strip of wallpaper (At head height, at the top of the stairs) and as we walked it down, the stand lug dug into the stairs carpet (On virtually every step) and tore out neat strips (I thought that I could hear a slight ripping sound) but a 650 'T' Bird ain't the easiest thing to manhandle on it's back wheel, on a steep, narrow staircase. Still! we managed to get it down without damaging anything (The bike, that is). It spent about a further couple of weeks in the kitchen between the table and the wall (Having final adjustments). My late Father (God bless him) used to 'Lose his rag' and ask when 'This bloody, great thing will be going outside', as he kept catching his head on the handlebars as he was having his dinner.
I remember one day when my Mum and Dad went out and left me in charge of my eight year old brother. I was working on my bike in the kitchen and my brother told me he was hungry. I looked in the cupboard and found a tinned treacle pudding. The instructions told me to put the unopened (I think) tin into a saucepan, half filled with water and simmer (You probably know what's coming) so I lit the gas cooker, placed the saucepan of water on a low heat and carried on with my bike. My brother was playing with his toys on the kitchen floor and I was working on my bike a couple of feet from him totally oblivious to the amount of time that was passing. Suddenly! there was an almighty bang, I was abruptly shaken back into reality and my instant reaction was to dive over my younger brother to protect him. As I glanced at the cooker, I could see the now oval shaped saucepan spinning around on the gas ring, heard what sounded like mud spattering down on the floor and could hear the tinkling of a tin can bouncing around. Once the dust had settled, I inspected the 'Aftermath'. The saucepan had boiled dry and now looked like a bomb had been detonated inside it, the treacle pudding tin had split at the seam, blown the top off and was lying in the sink and there was treacle pudding all up the wall with the majority of it hanging like a big steaming cow pat on the ceiling above the cooker. I had to scrape it all off (Once it had cooled down) before my folks came back but the bulk of it still tasted ok..
My mate bought a B.S.A. A10 but lived on the second storey in a block of flats. Late one night, when there weren't many folk about, a few of us carried/wheeled it up the staircase, along the balcony, into his flat and up the stairs to his spare bedroom. That's where we rebuilt it. When finished we took it back down again but it was a lot easier than moving my chop as the flats had very wide starcases and they were not so steep. Mind you, his neighbour did ask him 'What the f**k was that noise coming from your place last night'. My mate said 'The old A10 is up and running'. Once completed, my mate couldn't wait, so gassed and oiled it up, and had to try it to see if it would fire up. It did (In his bedroom).
It all starts coming back... In the 1970s a friend was thrown out of flat and told to take 'that thing' with him.
The 'thing' was the engine from an RM series Riley which he (aided and abetted by various people inckluding me) stripped down and rebuilt in his bedsit. The rest of the Riley was outside in the road.
I can't remember now whether he made peace with his landlady or moved to another nearby flat (I think it was the former), but we did eventually get the Riley up and running and restored to a pretty high standard.
The frame from the Matchless spent a fair bit of time in my spare beroom as well, although the reassembly was done at ground floor level.
When I find some pictures I'll put them on my profile.
was good to see you again stella,,its been ages, wen we saw you pointing at us in the car park, for a min we had to think who it was lol,,,didnt reqonize you
Getting skiddle to the Cat n Fiddle!
What annoyed me was that most of you lot decided to piss off to Matlock!.....If you wanted to meet at Matlock then why bother going to the cat. I did Leicester to Hull then over to the Cat at short notice yesterday and we got there at 2:50.
The meet should have been in its prime by then. I'm really dissapointed that you decided to move on, personally I think if a meet is arranged somewhere then it should stay there.
Fortunately the members that stuck with the Cat were great company and We had a good time.
Thanks to SP,Pony,Karey and some gayer on a Virago for making the trip worthwhile.
