Is anyone else going to Booze Spewz & Snooze Rally Dunbeath
17th 18th 19th October ? (Details on Events page)
Probably too far for you southern peeps
I can tell you how far it is from Old Basing Basingstoke as I trailed up from there the year I passed my test on a GS500 with wife(nearly ex now) as pillion and the rack stacked to the hieght of her head , got trophy for furthest travelled 679miles just beating a couple from Glostershire who had racked up 652miles .
I am going to be riding up on the thursday leaving Ripon for 9am and stopping overnight at my parents near Newtonmore (approx 150miles south of Dunbeath) , set off from there friday morning to get to Dunbeath for lunchtime and get an early start at the rally .
If you want to ride up with me just let me know (I do crack on a bit ,keep below the ton though as there are quite a few unmarked cars on the A9), enough floorspace at my parents to get a few dossbags down .
Hey FJ, hope you've packed your thermals....bring me back a penguin
Do you get to many bike rallies in Scotland as Cassie (another expat) wouldn't mind getting a rally next Year in her homeland? If you hear of any, can you give me a shout, please mate?
Cheers
BB
There is one Mayday weekend at Dornach , Buzzards MCC
Over The Hill Rally , good sized rally at 500 limit , easiest rally to find as it is right on the side of the A9.
I will post it on the events page when I get the flier thru , usually mid-Feb .
There are a few more that I would like to go to , but dates clash with rallies my ex goes to , so I have got the kids .
Wildcats Rally Jon'o'Groats Early June I think , will have to check on that one .
Garioch MCC Furry Boots Rally Aberdeen-shire
Will find out dates and other rallies to go to from my mates when I go to Dunbeath .
Where does Cassie come from ?
I don't know of any rallies round Kirriemuir area , but will ask around .
I am hoping to do either Buzzards(Mayday wknd) or Furry Boots (end of May) depending which lands on my weekend off(work alternate wknds)
Perhaps a few more BMers will go too with weather being warmer
Well got off to a good start , was first to arrive at 12.15pm friday , second to arrive was a fella from Skipton . They were still getting things set-up when I arrived , so I got tent pitched chucked all my gear into it and headed up to my mates sister's house for lunch . That's as far as I got the whole weekend , oops first time I've totally missed a rally , I have missed an odd night before but never the whole rally , at least my bike and tent attended all weekend (think they had a good time , they keeping quiet though , must have been up to no good) .
Still managed to get my badge and gift(keyring) as I got talking to Robbie Keith(orginiser) as I was packing away my tent and he wouldn't let me leave without them .
Met my mate from Ripon as I was loading my bike up , told me he had been telling everyone "that's Dugald's bike don't know where he is though , definately Dugald's bike" .
Dissapointed that I missed it as this had been there best attendance ever with all 250 tickets and extras sold .
Still had a good weekend though .
Fastjock?!?! WTF?? HOW cud u have pitched up and MISSED the Rally???
Unless the offer of some home-cooking and a nice warm bed was jus tooooo much to turn down?!?
** shakes head in disbelief**
Eeehhh i dunno !! Wot u like !!
I did a couple of Scottish rallies this year, Wildcats ( O'Groats ) and Edingburgh MAG..... wud like to do the Furryboots.. but can't really make any committments yet... will see how the New Year goes. I'm ment to be goin up to Strontian for Hogmany wiv mi mates.. hiring a cottage.. depends ont pennies tho ! lol
Yeah, there's a tale to be told there so come on, FJ and tell it.
Rode through Strontian many years ago on a solo tour of the highlands and islands. It's certainly well away from the rat race. Just make sure you got plenty of the hard stuff in.
Lol @ Wills.. mates have been goin up there for the last 5 yrs.. they have got in wiv the locals.. get invited to all the parties!
But it is remote, yr right. One of my mates goes up the week before on her own wiv her dog..and just chills out ...fantastic scenery.
Rite, back to FJ... c'mon.. we all wanna know what was better than the rally?!?
Nothing to tell really , just old friends remanising old times (been going to Dunbeath for 17 years), copious ammounts of alcohol and losing track of time . Made for a cheap weekend with lager straight from the shop .
There is a bit of history between myself and Maree , but that was some 13 years ago when she was married to a complete pig , nothing ever happened we just got a bit close . The fella she is with now Allan is also a good mate , who I have known for about as long as I have known Maree , about 17 years .
The rest of the party consisted of Maree's daughter and a couple of the locals , a few more of the locals popped in from time to time including Maree's parents , her dad worked with my dad some 30 odd year ago .
Hope you all getting the picture now , next year I am going to things the way we used to , start at the rally then end up at Maree's later on .
Lol...nice one FJ!! Them kinda weekends are good eh?
You're exscused from not attending the rally then!..But like u sed.. i think next year.. Rally first THEN party at Maree's !
A cheap weekend?
900 mile round trip; rally ticket; copious amounts of alcohol ; the odd bacon butty- not much change from £150 I'd say!
Wot do u spend when u really push the boat out?
Wish I had yr budget (green,grin,green,grin...)
PS - do u entertain begging letters?
850 mile roundtrip , £80 on petrol , £15 on food at sevices , rest supplied foc from Alan and Maree , oh and me mum of coarse .
£20 on booze(Alan and Maree had a good stock in, just topped it up a bit), rally tkt £15 . Total £130
A fairly typical rally can see the best part of £200 on booze and food alone . I don't drink very often so tend to make the most of it at rallies .
Beggers will be shot
