This weekend at the barmouth camp I was asked if it was ok for a someone to be there as he had only been on bm for a few days but had been kicked off. So I asked why it turned out he had made up a short profile while he considered his other comments nothing wrong there I thought. He was then told he needed to add more info. well as he is always up for a laugh and has a great sense of humour he put "hung like a donkey". Well he has been told that is not acceptable on bm and has been kicked off. Ffs what is wrong with some people I'm sick of the political correctness we have enough of it in our work life and don't need it on here. So get a life and stop this petty stupid attitude that is wrecking the site. If you don't like what I am saying ban me too as there is a lot more offensive comments made on here everyday than hung like a donkey

Shame he didn't give you the story as it happened...but then, why should I be surprised?
On that basis, I'm not changing my mind.

Rather a donkey than a hamster ...

In my late teens a guy who attended the rock club I frequented had a brilliant t-shirt; on the front in big lettering it read "Hung Like A ..." On the back in tiny writing it simply said "hamster"

It certainly helped him score with the girls!

Ahem, on a more serious note (& not starting an argument!) surely such a comment would be dismissed as a 'wishful thinking' and a 'bit of a jape'?!

Unless of course the person concerned got into conversation with another member and then became lewd and crude and the recipient objected.

There certainly have been more offensive things said within forums on this site, which have over the short period of time I've been a member have been a bone of contention and caused major arguments amongst members both on site and socially.

Freedom of speech has sadly demised and at times censorship is necessary. However, as I learned myself (knuckles rapped!) a little 'banter' between mates can also be misconstrued by another who objects loudly.

The voice of reason is apparently 'out to lunch' and I doubt will return.

I say it as it is, if you don't like what I'm saying tell me, we can talk about it, I will listen but I probably won't change my mind. Agree to disagree and there will be much less angst in the world. I'm exiting stage left..

I know there are rules but pityness and lack of a sense of humour is lacking in some members who report minor things . As they seem to have nowt else to do but trawl through profiles picking out what they dont like personally in a profile

I'm not sure if I ought to comment on this at all..... Surely a joke comment on a profile is far better than the usual 'tell you later' covering 90% of some profiles.... For freedom of speech please refer to Mr. D J Trump of The White House, Trumpton... USA....

I don't give a toss if you changed you mind or not 161 post in how many years and how many meets have been to and members meet ?. On that basis you don't understand how bm members work and doubt you ever will being a mod is more than knowing how to press keys. As you you Lindsay you promised not to tell about the hamster I trusted you and you told all bm how am I expected to have any fun now

Always two sides to every story, but I do have some sympathy.

I'm a member of another one-make club which has it's own forum. About 99% of the membership is male, 40s/50s/ and upward and every one a biker.
But a couple of years ago they put a swear filter on the forum! FFS - we're all rufty-tufty bikers - did they think that a bit of coarse language would offend anyone??! Still in place now, and it was pretty much a unilateral decision that put it there.

There is also a 'vault' there, and they move argumentative threads off the main board and lock them away where no-one can see them - again, another mistake instead of just locking them and letting them be.

Political Correctness is still alive and well sadly. But it sounds as if there may have been something else as well rather than just the 'hung like a donkey' thing, as it's easy to get someone to change that with a simple nudge from mods or admin. And it's really more jocular than offensive.

Way to go Matt... how to drive people away, put some one who is rigid about rules as a mod. We are all grown ups on here and I think a little common sense needs to be applied. I presume he's your mate Matt seeing as none of the regulars know who he is as he hasn't been to any events.

Eventually all that will happen is we will all be friends on FB and will just arrange meets ourselves as we won't need BM..

Think on Matt

It is a site for grown ups isn't it? A little fun never hurt, a laugh to get you through your day.

I can only agree with the previous comments having met the guy in question.
He,s a lovely fella and has a great sense of humour, he would be a credit to this site and should be allowed back on.
So come on, do the right thing please.

Well it's nice to see everyone sticking their noses in again where they don't belong, isn't it?

It's nice that some folks know this person offline, but this new member made no attempt to identify himself. You would NOT have recognised by the profile (empty, and called Name1, no photos etc) that it was someone you knew.

So Nick did precisely what I want from a moderator. He phished a bit to try and get more info, asked the person to politely fix his profile (removing the donkey bit for example).

Nick needed to know if this new member was going to be a spammer, hacker, or just a trouble-maker / troll. The kinda people we don't want on BM (and I'd like to hope you're all thankful for us keeping off the site!).

A reasonable new member, here for genuine reasons, would have replied "Hey Nick, yea sorry was just having a laugh but I'll fix it now".
Instead, this person replied with "Eyor" and left his profile.

This gave Nick, and also would give me, reason to believe the new member was a troll/trouble-maker who was not joining BM to be a friendly member.

Nick rightly disabled the account and asked me to delete it.

The fact that everyone seems to think they know better, or could do better, shows you all sadly have little respect or understand for what moderators do on this site.

Maybe we should run a week without the mods like Nick to show you how many spammers and trolls get through. Maybe everyone would appreciate a 100 spam messages about enlargement enhancing products via private messages, or trolls posting crap in the forums just to stir up arguments and bring the atmosphere down.

No, I doubt that would be a pleasent BM that we want to see.

But nice to see some people still pushing their negative crap trying to kill BM, thanks guys.

And Fiesty, no I don't know Nick. But even if I did know Nick, maybe an old school friend, I'd have every right to make a trusted old school friend a moderator on my website. If you'd like to pick and choose your mods please feel free to spend 13 years of your life building your own community website. I wish you the best of luck with it.

By the way, we have no swear filters etc on BM. We expect people to behave like grown-ups (mostly) and can handle jokes. We're not into the idea of censoring everything. But we have duty to keep shitheads off the site and sometimes it's difficult to tell with new profiles if someone is genuine or just a shithead. Sometimes it's hard to tell if long-standing members are just shitheads to be honest :-D

The new member has now had his profile re-enabled, only because some of you can vouch for him. Crystal balls are wonderful things, eh? As are good manners.

So as a member from 2008 and events team member since the day you suggested having events teams my input is not wanted by yourself. As for mods I have every respect for what they do and the hours they put in to bm going to events and meeting new members on a weekly basis also at every none bm rally they go to they are pushing bm and getting members to join. I told you weeks ago this was on the cards and you do what you always do just ignored me. I have said this before if you don't like my comments or my input delete me from bm.
