Hmm.. no, I didn't see anything to warn me, gh. I did have a tinted visor but I was also looking at other things (as you do aproaching a junction). Talking to someone last night who rides that road regularly, he said it could well have been silage spillage from local farm machinery which has caught him out a couple of times in the dry! The surface was so slick that even when I put my foot down when I had stopped it slipped an inch or two.
Lol - dunno if it looked good or not but I actually enjoyed it (used to having a machine moving about underneath me - ex motocross racer).
Did you contact local police to get it cleaned up? They have a duty of care to get this stuff sorted out FAST if reported should be sorted within the hour!
Yes TM roundabouts are the main culprits (actually lorry drivers who squeeze every last drop into their tanks are), also corners too any where a sloshing effect can spill excess diesel.
There is a bad roundabout (last entrance to Hull docks drivers approach it a bit quick and result in regular spills) Hull to Hedon (Hedon Road) almost catches me from time to time, so far been lucky not to be traveling at any great pace going through the roundabout! But had a few chocolate starfish winking moments there lol.
Dammit HR, no I didn't ! To be honest, I wouldn't have known who to call - is it considered a 999 thing? (The cars behind me managed to stop without incident). The local police have just issued a non-emergency number so I will enter it in my phone for if it happens again - thanks HR!
I know to be wary of roundabouts near filling stations but this was a T-junction in the middle of nowhere. There is a roundabout in Perth notorious for diesel as it is right next to a Stagecoach bus depot.
I had to design a fuel filler cowl for a bus company once which had a run-off and drain tube for excess fuel which would be caught by a bottle. The mechanics said they didn't bother with the bottles as they couldn't be arsed to empty them...
Anyhoo.. I have just booked a half hour with my therapist to try to get rid of certain chocolate images....
If you do not know the local police number, then I'd consider it a 999 as less experianced riders would with out a doubt come off their bikes there! Accident prevention! (part of duty of care).
As to the roundabout that is known for fuel spillages outside that bus garage (the garage manager should be aware HE is open to full prossicution under the health and safty laws and the road traffic act, as he is the man in charge of his buses going out with too much fuel on board) ANYONE causing and accident via fuel spillage can be brought to book. So the guy in the garage who is supposed to empty the over flow bottles is also guilty of gross negligence, and may end up on manslaughter charges if any one dies as a result of a falling off on that roundabout!
Also other law I am not aware of in Scotland (some laws up there have harsher sentances that some of ours).
The thing about reporting spillages, if not sorted within a reasonable time frame, from time of reporting! The local authourity (including it's employees) are open to prosicution for causing injury through NON action.
All good points, HR. I might take a ride down there later on just out of interest, park up and have a little look-see. (But hopefully it will all have been washed away).
The roundabout/drain bottle things were quite some time ago when I used to have a proper job so hopefully it has all been sorted out now.
Still doesn't stop me tiptoeing around the same roundabout whenever I am down there though - once bitten, etc. etc.
Reading an email today from a guy who used to work where I work, cutting a long story short, he went on leave at xmas and never came back into work in the new year, no one heard from him all we knew was he had gone back to India, to his wife and baby, his email today told us all why, his little baby girl (just over one) was killed in car accident on 06/01/08 the car was being driven by her grandad, it was in a head on with a lorry, driven by a drunk driver, the babies mother had minor injuries to her body but is mentally traumatised by it and the grandad had very serious injuries and has just come out of ICU. He has only just himself had the strength to share this with us.
