Ah Sandi, yes bedroom tax , one of my fiends whos children have long flown the nest have two empty bedrooms now They are pensioners but now having to find extra rent.
Whenever I have been asked about the people living in my property, my son who is in the Army, isn't classed as living here even though he is on the electoral role at this address . I hope the Council are understanding , fingers crossed
Hi Feylin
How can your local council not acknowledge your son living at home, they wouldn't have rented to you a 2 bedroom property if you didn't warrant it. They are stupid sometimes.
It's just another way to get money out of tenants.
It's a pity they didn't think about the hardship and upheaval (if we have to move home) this will cause to those of us on low incomes / unemployed before they came up with this.
I did think 'hang on a minute, this can't be legal can it, putting the rent up for this reason when we've already signed the tenancy agreement?'
then I thought 'it probably is legal , the council is crafty and will have made sure'
We can't win, either we cough up the extra or have to move out to a smaller property. So much for our son's serving in Her Majesty's forces, and fighting for their country when the need arises, if this is how they are treated.
It was only 4 yrs ago that I had to move out of my other home cos the council were demolishing it. I was hoping this would be my last move (unless I met someone special and moved in with them) cos I've never lived in any property longer than 9 yrs.
I'm well hacked off at all the upheaval of moving homes, and even country, I've had to put up with in the past, mainly due to being a services wife; (and the daughter of a man who had itchy feet and would move us every couple of years lol
and breathe... lol
sad/unhappy.....pre-christmas meal visit by gonzo....managed to upset both kids, last word every time...grrrrrrr...wonder how long you get for manslaughter these days??
Its all to do with Mr Cameron's initiative for austerity and benefit reform, so not a lot us poor folks can do Probably the only time in a few years that I am thankful that I decided to buy my house
With the forces I am sure its something to do with the fact that the barracks is resident address as they are there more than home.
When I was at Uni they didnt class my son as living at my address when i applied for exemption as a student, my other son is still a student so now I am back in full time work I get single person discount. >>
I explained about him , and it was just ignored so he doesnt have to part pay towards council tax bill here either .
you figure the rules ?
My other friend has been asked to move into a two bed property as her one child has left and the house will benefit someone else She said when she has saved enough for the removals and new carpets etc yes.........which will take however long
In the meantime she has to pay extra £50 per month and even though she is working she has no idea where this amount is going to be found She said couple years ago she could have saved £50 per month but now ..........
as ever the lower paid and ones already struggling suffer most
Feylin, my son is a submariner in the Royal Navy, and has been shoreside for months cos the boat he serves on is in refit.
My son doesn't have to pay towards the council tax of this home (yet) and I get single person allowance too.
I'm hoping I'll not need to find the extra rent, but it's only a matter of time before the council expect me to move out anyway as I find it difficult to manage to keep the gardens tidy.
Well Sandi, maybe now is the time to reconsider the suggestion made earlier
There are good people out there who would love to "share" your garden
They would probably pay (help with rent) and grow veg and fruit
And keep the gardens looking neat and tidy
It's worth serious consideration
Better than moving again
Between a rock and a hard place there Em, 'move to a flat or share garden' neither appeal
I've had nothing but upheaval since I divorced 14 yrs ago (when life was supposed to begin), at my time of life I'd like to just live my life and not encounter any hassle, ideal world scenario...dream on Sandi lol
Well I'd rather share me garden
Than move to a pokey 1 bed council flat with no garden
Not a hard choice if you value your "garden time"
No matter how nice the council try to make the outside of flats
They are never your own and never what you want/like
So sharing with a friendly soul who has gardening in their blood
Is a "no brainer" not a "hard choice"
When faced with the alternative
Who knows, you may even find a biker who likes gardening and has a spare pilly seat
I'd give it go Sandi
Condolences Bill
The festive season always serves to remind me of those no longer with us
But I do take the opportunity to "celebrate" their contribution to my life and of others
