To those who've asked, yes the bike's back on the road now. The breakdown in Barmouth was indeed a failed regulator/rectifier that had boiled the battery. New rec/recs are listed by Honda at £173 (ouch!). Pattern ones are between £25-40 from independents, or £6.95 including postage if ordered direct from China. I bought a pattern one to get me back on the road quickly, and a China direct one to keep in the toolbox. Tayna batteries in North Wales seem to be cheaper than most for bike batteries, btw, even including delivery.
Changed the plugs on the RS and ordered a new air filter, loosened the front sprocket nut to start changing the chain on the triple and ordered a new tab washer....that'd be two bikes off the road theb...
Got home today after my first ride in about 5 years. Didn't go far as the old Bonnie has had a LOT of new parts and this was it's first run on the road since. Got home, no major issues at all, clutch needs tightening, chain needs adjusting (now) and an engine mount bolt needs changing as the chain is 'just' rubbing it every now and then. So, I'm well chuffed, and the mileage ended up as 66.6..... that's a good omen
Carb mixture adjustments, lengthened and secured a longer engine breather, shortened an engine mounting bolt & adjusted the chainguard. Off to TMS in Nottingham tomorrow for choke plungers, float pins and a split-link.
5 days in Ireland last weekend on the bike, a week commuting on the bike, a long run on the bike this morning, a run to Edinburgh this afternoon, then a day off the bike tomorrow, finally!
Changed oil on Bandit as it basically forced my arm by dumping remainder of fuel in tank into sump.Shit in the tank was the problem,as i've never done that before will have to make sure it's done on a regular basis. Should have seen the spray that came out of exhaust......just a reminder that vacuum taps don't always work.Cured problem as i now hang bike from the ceiling upside down.
It was yesterday. Decided to ride into the city to look at a job, but on the way back, I was stopped at a police road block. They were checking for stolen bikes. Inconvenient, but a good thing as so many bikes are being stolen lately :-)
