ORGANISERS of the Canadian Superbike Championship have announced they are banning all Yamaha YZF- R1 models from the racing series.Professional Motorsports Productions' move comes after Yamaha <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Canada</st1:place></st1:country-region> announced in November that they were withdrawing from Canadian Superbike series. Furthermore, race organisers have also announced no 2010 Yamaha models will be allowed to race in any of the series’ classes, though due to their popularity, Yamaha YZF-R6 models from 2009 or earlier will be eligible.“Our biggest concern is the privateer or club level racer with existing Yamaha equipment,” says Colin Fraser of series organisers, Professional Motorsports Productions. “The vast majority of Yamaha riders utilize 600s, and we agreed that it was in everyone’s best interests to allow these existing machines to continue to compete.”Mmm. Cutting off thir nose to spite their face ? Without knowing all the detail, sounds a pretty suicidal move to me. Lose the works team, so lose a load of privateers aswell ? Might be some logic there, but I can't see it. esp given the current financial climate and reducing race fields anyway.

Yamaha are to reduce support all over the world for super bike teams to save money even in the UK.
