After eavesdropping a conversation in the chatroom the other night
(you know who you were no disrespect )
It set me thinking how many of us are avid planners and how many are spontaneous
I am a mixture, but I expect that comes from years of doin the same things so a certain amount is pre-planned due to knowing whats needed for given situations.
I suspect however that some like to plan in minute detail
Whats the verdict
I'm a planner. I suppose i grew up that way. Dad was in the Army, so he likes to know whats going on well in advance. I joined the RAF at 17, again, everything had a timetable. Then I joined the police. I know exactly what days and shifts I am working until Jan 2010 and I have lots of animals(as you well know). So I have to organise everyone at work and at home I am ruled by a timetable(stables etc)....my life is one big military operation!
I sometimes plan & sometimes don't - a bit strange cos I'm a project Manager so you'd think I'd be well organised & planned!! I suppose though I err more on the side of planning than not! however I'm not into the micro detail of planning - I suppose it all depends on what it is I'm planning for!
I am a planner.
If I'm going to do something, I need to know in advance. I need to know exactly what I'm going to do, how I'm going to do it and why.
As with DC, I get this from my Father who was a squadie. He was exactly the same and it's passed down the line.
I've even a procedure for washing the pots!! Glasses get washed first whilst the sink is filling and then each is rinsed under the running hot tap, cups etc next, then plates (three plates go in the sink, I wash the bottom one first, put it to drain and then put another in on the top of the remaining two). Pots and pans get washed next, with a change of water if required (wash the pots quickly in the dirty water, put them to one side, change of water and wash the pots properly) and cutlery last.
That's very squaddie like Geoff but entirely practical I too am similarly thorough with pot washing cant see the point in doing it any other way unless you want to end end up wi mucky pots
Em
I went in completely the opposite direction - the planning down to the nth degree which my parents tried desperately to pass on to me drove me nuts (right down to sitting together on a Friday night, examining every single penny that they'd spent each week and going through their bank statements, receipts, purses and wallets with a finetoothed comb!) ... So I live my life in a constant muddle
Anytime I attempt to bring a little organisation into it, it's a total disaster area... whenever everything's just dumped in boxes/bags around the house, I know EXACTLY where everything is... the minute I have a tidy up, I can't find a bloomin' thing.
I tend to have a sketchy plan if it's a day out/holiday or whatever, but it has to be totally flexible to allow for "oooh shiny!" moments... My Dad used to have everything planned with military precision and was even known to distribute timetables on occasion! I hate that... I want to wander around and soak up the atmosphere of a place, not think "Ooops! Gotta report to mess hall at 18:00 hours! Must leave this bar/gallery/museum/castle immediately!"
The washing up gets done when I can be bothered. The hoovering happens when I remember before 7pm cos I don't want to disturb next door's kids by doing it too late and windows get cleaned when I feel the need to express my inner exhibitionist!
Everything happens on Wannabe Time... I once apologised for running late to a client when I arrived to do some bookkeeping... they fell about laughing... Rather than being an hour later than planned as I thought, I was actually one day plus one hour late I'm going to bribe the undertakers to skip into the ceremony at least 20 minutes late for my funeral saying "Sorry we're late! The bloody traffic on the M25 - you wouldn't BELIEVE it!"... Preferably combining this with a neat trip up the aisle so my coffin skids along to the front - I want to give everyone a good giggle
Probably goes a long way to explain how I got to 41 never having been married... At least I didn't inflict myself on innocent offspring!
I hate planning anything.....nothing ever goes to plan I find it boring. I prefer the excitement of what might happen thats when it happens, if it happens. I find I enjoy the whatever I havent planned so much better and have more time on my hands to waste.
Spontanious thats me.
I must admit it shows in my everyday life that I dont plan. my house is mainly a mess...clean but messy. My dog hasnt got a clue what time walkies is or dinner time...My kids never know when I am in ..Thats not a bad thing as I never know either!. They are grown up and living elsewhere.
My mobile hair dresser often rings me up where are you???
My life is just so dizzy but I wouldnt want it any other way.. My dog might though LOl
i supose having to plan for years as a single parent has made me a planner but i find being spontaneous more fun. like moon sed plans usually go wrong anyway.
