Not strictly just for bikers but definitely worth a mention the In Case of Emergency wrist band. Your name, date of birth, emergency telephone number(s) special medication, allergies etc, are engraved onto the personalised inner band which is inserted into the virtually indestructable, waterproof and clear, outer embossed band. Available in different sizes and colours the wristband is available for only £6.99 (price correct at time of typing this) inclusive of postage and packing. Tel: 01773 762 686 email: service@icebands.biz www . icebands . biz (remove the spaces)

Most folk will probably be aware of the ICE bands but it's the first I've heard so I thought I'd post about them just in case there are others like me who haven't heard of them. I'd need TWO bands for my allergies Just out of curiosity which colourway do you think is the easiest to read?

Looks like a good idea, though really it's just a new version of the military-style dogtags you can get made up. Bit more stylish, though. There's been a campaign going for years for peeps to have their preferred emergency contact number programmed into their mobile under ICE. Doesn't take a minute, and the emergency services are aware of it and will go straight to ICE on the mobile of a non-communicating casualty. I know that many will know this already, bit it's worth repeating all the same.

You can also use I.C.E. in your mobile phone... All the emergency services recommend that you put your next of kin (or person to contact in an emergency) in you contacts under ICE .. then put the persons name and number. I have put ICE..followed by my daughters name.. then daughter, making it a bit easier for whoever phones, to know who they are talking to. EDIT: Wills beat me to it !! haha As for the colours, Kwak, have a look a this (it's a slide show, once opened, click you mouse to go to the next page) http://www.depts.ttu.edu/hs/rhim5200/ppt_files/colors.ppt#16

Kwak, You would need the highest contrast possible between text and background for maximum clarity. Looking at the colours available on the website, I would suggest the black and red backgrounds with white text assuming it was a dark red. Thanks for the ICE/mobile phone thing, guys and gals - have just keyed it in! p.s. anyone remember SOS Talismans, the silver locket things? I used to wear one as a kid (prob late 70s early 80s)...

A company used to operate, called Biker Tagz. They do teh same thing with info printed on brightly coloured US Dog Tags. Last I heard, though, they'd had to hold off adding new members. I just wear a pair of standard rolled edge US tags with info stamped on 'em. Cost about a fiver from various places.

Thanks Karey, I just scrolled thro them via my mouse wheel. Excellent idea the ICE in the mobile phone list. I have my son in but under his name so no one would know he is my son and next of kin. In my mobile phone you only get so many letters; not enough to put ICE, name and next of kin. I've just put ICE and then my son's name, they will have to ask him what relation he is to me. I prefer the red background and black text. Red being the danger/alert colour. I like the Kwak green too. According to the website you can choose the font/text style you like too but I aint fussed as long as it can be read in an emergency.

Yw Kwak! and it dont really matter if you don't put the relationship.. as long as they have an 'ICE' contact, thats gud enuff I agree about the red/black or even the yellow/black, i did colours/reading text, as part of my course for Basic Skills tutoring...but i never completed it ..lol but its funny to see the weird colour combinations sum ppl use on their websites/blogs etc,,thinkin they look kool...when really they are just a nightmare to read !

Grrr.... been over my head in Pantone colour books for a print job which reminded me about this forum. Red and black could work, dependent on the shade of red. It can sometimes lead to a, for want of a better term, ghosting effect. (think of the black concentric circles on the red and green backgrounds when you are having an eye test). To get an idea of how colour combinations work, just look at signs around you, especially road signs. Check out the online DVLA Highway Code section on road signs (warning and information). They use white text on blue for their information signs, which also ties in with this study: http://hubel.sfasu.edu/research/survreslts.html As for the font, I would go with one of the thicker Helvetica styles. Ok, I am beginning to bore myself now so am stopping typing.... (alternatively, just go with your fave colours!! It has to match your wardrobe after all... )

Karey - absolutely agree with you!! The trouble is, it is not just individuals, some of the commercial sites are just awful!! (think blood pouring out of eye sockets after a couple of minutes viewing...)

There is another device www.u-tag (dot) co.uk This may be better if you do a lot of travelling as it is multi-lingual and also as it can store quite a bit of data, it would be more suitable for people who have more than one allergy or medical condition

As a former ambulance driver for the Red Cross I have had to use ICE. ICE was the brainchild of a couple of paramedics, i can't remember which NHS trust they are with. The nice thing about ICE is that you xan have more thanm one ICE number. you just put in ICE1 ICE2 ect. it is well worth setting one up on your phone, or even a small sticker on the side of your bike and lid.
