Just signed petition, if all BM members signed, it would do well towards reaching required numbers.

They should add the tax to the fuel, that way the more miles you do and the thirstier the vehicle the more you're taxed, it's the only fair way. I could then ride any bike I want without having to buy 3 lots of road tax.

You could give road haulage, couriers etc a discount at the pumps to even things out for the essential services.

But reducing the tax on bikes would be a damn good start instead on constantly making it harder to pass the bloody test in the first place. I thought the idea was to get cars off the road!

The thing that annoys me about the tax system is, if you have a car that produces less than 100gm of CO2 you don't pay any tax. If you have a bike with a similar engine, you still pay full tax. Not fair is it?

Sorry if I've caused any confusion The number I posted was the one on the petition when I confirmed It's just that I posted in the forum "after" Sandi I think David missed a 1 off his petition number which "lost" 10,000

Ta for the explanation Em, there must have been loads signed between you and me if I was only the 6,509th on the petition. The more we get the better.

Sorry Sandi, my mistake I must have mis-read the number or it was listed wrong on the petition But it's now 6,595 I hope that's cleared up the confusion

I posted this on Facebook and one of the comments was concerning the motives and implications of this petition. The concerns were that the road tax would be based on emissions, as cars are at present. This could result in owners of older machines with higher emission outputs paying much more. It's worth considering this before signing. I have sighed the petition, but did it before this disclosure.

Pre 1973 vehicles get free tax anyway.

Also note cars/vans tax is emission based from 2001 onwards only so I don't see this becoming an issue. My 2001 406 HDI has £140 a year tax,if it was registered 6 months earlier it would cost £225.The actual emissions listed by the manufacturer are on the car V5,I doubt they will bother changing all the V5 logbooks for every pre 2001 vehicle, assuming the manufacturers even keep that data.At present cars/vans pre 2001 are split with cheaper tax below 1549 cc and dearer above that and presume if bike tax changed it would be similar to cars,ie size based pre 2001,emissions based after.
