Race watchers in Australia got a surprise when a real hare ran onto a greyhound racing track.
The animal confused the dogs that were forced to choose between chasing their regular fake target or a real animal.
The bizarre incident happened at Shepparton racecourse in Victoria as the dogs went round a bend.
Greyhound number 4, known as 'Ginny Lou' left the track to chase the large hare instead of the lure, which is an artificial hare.
"It is a rare occasion that a real bunny will jump onto the track as we've seen just then," said the race commentator.
Stewards annulled the race and returned 32,000 Australian dollars (£18,500) to people who had placed bets.

I wonder if the hound caught the hare
Many years ago, at the stadium in Portsmouth, when the race was over one dog kept on running and left the stadium, no idea what made him do it but he made it into the local paper, well not him his story.
I've got a tortoise, in my back garden, it's made of stone and has a leg off lol.
It's been thro loads of house moves without a scratch, until this last house move and the cowboy removal company the council appointed to move me. It was like something out of a 'Carry On' film. If I say they turned up with a van far too small for all my stuff, and the sealing tape they used to seal the boxes was put on so quickly that it was often sticky side up, then you'll get the idea.
The hare would probably have escaped. Although greyhounds are much faster they can't outmanoeuvre a hare, they actually have a huge turning circle when running flat out. I used to live with 4 greyhounds, they never managed to catch the squirrel that used to taunt them.
ROFL @ squirrel taunting greyhounds.
I dated a lad whose family raced greyhounds and I went with them once to the track, I love the racing, but never went with them again cos after the race the dogs sat in the back of the car with ME. They slobbered all over me, gross
They are lovely dogs tho, so placid, rarely bark.
re squirrel an greyhounds. Took mine a while to catch the squirrel that used to play him up off the top of the fence.... but when he did! you ever seen a greyhound with a big grin
I reckon the hare will have out run the greyhound.....the longest distances greyhounds can run is not very far at all. Ok they can smash it for a short period of time but not over long distances. Bloody hilarious thought though!
