Just watching the qualifying for the races at Valencia & they've just announced that next years British MotoGP will be from Silverstone.
Looks like Donnington have really pished some people off as they're not getting the F1 either!
The reason that the F1 is at Silverstone, rather than Donington is because the track wont be ready. Donny are doing a major redevelopment and ran out of funding.
I knew that they'd ran out of funding to re do the track for F1 standards, but I'd assumed that they'd be keeping the MotoGP.....anyway, never been to Silverstone so will be going next year
Silverstone have apparently (or will shortly) be making track amendments as well to bring the track up to GP standards. Think they are taking one of the chicanes out and increasing run off on a couple of bends.
I have been to BSB at Silverstone, and didn't really rate it for the viewing. They also didn't used to have camping at the track.
I will be going, but only to the Day of Champions, (as long as they still do it) as I cant afford the GP tickets lol
they said on Eurosport that they're sill going to have the day of champions. Yep - know what you mean re the cost of tickets!!
Also it's a bugger that you have to camp outside the circuit - I know that there's planty of campsites outside & nearby the circuit, but it's not quite the same!
Am also a tad peeved that they've moved the World Supers away from Brands ! Mind you - if Donnington isn't completed (just been reading motomatters dot com) then would it return to Brands or go to Silverstone??hmmmmm.....
dont think the passing of wheatcroft the curcits owner has helped much either ! doningtons a good venue access good too but its ready for an overhall really
I think that they had already moved the F1 back to Silverstone before Tom Wheatcrofts sad demise. The people who are doing the track renovations are leaseholders so I don't think it would have that much of an impact.
The main thing that needs altering at Donington as far as fans are concerned is the access and the toilet facilities, they are well below par for an international standard track. Even though they rebuilt the pit garages a year or two ago I read somewhere the teams still think they are blow standard and they also would probably prefer better track access as well lol
I went to Silverstone BSB this year, just to suss out the track for viewing for the motogp - it really is poor unless u pay for a grandstand. There are very few grassy chill areas too so once ur in ur spot, u have to stay there, especially if u go alone an don't have someone to save ur spot!!!
I reckon it's gonna be packed for the motogp too.
The track modifications look good to me - I took a map of both existing and 2010 plans of the circuit and walked all the way round. The middle bit where they are changing is flat and difficult to see anything. The grandstands there are way back and low down from the track too, but I think they're elevating and bringing them forward.
I camped onsite at BSB and although they advertise campsites away from the circuit, I think you still can camp onsite. Still limited facilities though, with only 1 standpipe!!
If you are gonna buy grandstand tickets, I think Copse D at the end of the start/finish is a really good one. Seat 46 though - of course!!! Otherwise, anything at the top end - grandstand or free access will give you a decent view I think.
I love Donington, for all it's faults with facilities, it was still the best circuit for racing and I think motogp should return there after this mad silly 5 year contract expires!!!!!
There - rant over lol
Hope the info helps

I used to go to silverston in the early eighties to watch the 500cc grand prix as was. the view is shite cus it's so flat. The camp site we used was just up the road from silverstone village. everyone walked down to the village and had a riot out side the pub. About the only exciting thing to happen all weekend.
hmmm - Silverstone is NOT looking very inviting!!
I know what you say Rossi re Donnington - I've been going there since the early 80's!! & even given its faults I love it as the viewing is brilliant. Same with Brands the viewing there is fantastic & it just 'feels' a nice circuit - all the racers love it.
tbh Donington may be the best circuit, but they've been taking the P*** out of paying customers for years.
Every year they say facilities will be improved, every year they do nothing
They don't deserve to host international events and the idea they were ever going to be ready for F1 was a joke.
On the other hand, Silverstone is rubbish for spectating, tho the facilities are second to none. Daren't look what it's going top cost.
£135 for a covered grandstand Rob! Anything below that for other grandstands and free access. Don't think that price includes camping though!! It's the MotoGP though - and you don't get to see world class racers live on the track (Rossi) (!!!!) every day of your life so I'll pay it!!!
Don't agree about the facilities at S'stone tho, they shut EVERYTHING at 8.30pm on the Saturday at BSB - you couldn't even get a brew!!! And you had to go off the campsite the next morning to get anything too.
Bit duff if you ask me
hmm - that's not sounding good Rossi - the price OR the fact that everything shuts down early! at least @ Brands all the bars etc are open till at least midnight - even on the Sunday after the racing (as I know to my cost! lol) & @ Donnington they had entertainment on till the wee hours on the Saturday - usually Jamie Whitam's band or James Toselands band.(well they did last time I camped over there!)
I think maybe it had something to do with it being BSB and the lateness in the season - still out of order though, cos we still pay our money and they advertised as being open till 12 too.
The general access tickets will be about the same price as they've always been I expect. I only looked at grandstand cos I was seriously considering buying one - which would mean paying well in advance. Think I'm just gonna go general access now though - just as many options for good viewing and more flexible.
Entertainment will never be as good anywhere than at Donington though!!! Atmosphere was brill there!!
don't forget guys, that's only the price of a covered grandstand ticket.
The normal tickets will be around the same as they've always been. I'll check it out an come back to y'all.
