It has been identified that a few of us would appreciate a bit of technical/basic maintenance knowledge... We already seem to have a fair bit of interest/help offered... so how about we set up some kind of meet?? Or maybe link it to a day out?? i dunno.. just thinking of a way to get together..and gain some knowledge..

Totally agree Karey, when I was in MAG we had bike-building day's that really helped a lot of newbies and taught a few of us 'experienced' riders a thing or two about the inner workings of a motorbike. Maybe some kind BM'er with a workshop could do the same thing? Anyway, I've been giving Cassie plenty of 'hands on' help and assistance lately

ps. Oil or wax for your chain is personal choice, I use Hein Gericke products, but a few friends use Wurth chain lubricant. To me, they're all much of a muchness. Can't help you with spark plugs, I only know how to ride 'em, not bloomin fix 'em, that's why God invented mechanics lol

Oi you, will speak to you later Blue. Think a days workshop would be a fantastic idea Gonna tell you a secret now but you musan't tell a soul ok,when i blew baby up it turned out to be because i had been dutifully checking the brake fluid.I know i know,i've heard evreyone of them already, probably a dozen times, and they say ignorance is bliss!! The point being tho,no matter how good your intentions,if nobody teaches you,you don't know.If anybody out there has the knowledge time and patience to teach us ignorant bunch a few basics and save us having to really on those teeth sucking bandits for simple things, you'd be a hero in my mind! Mayhaps there is also an oppurtunity here for the friendlies to raise some rally funds??

I will quite happily show people what to do/ check. Can't get oop north for a couple of weeks yet though. I have offered to repair Stella's bike, so If any laydeeeeeeeeeeeees ( or gents) would like a crash (sic) course then we can arrange a mini gathering. Stella says she is making Tea and bacon sarnies, Cassie, you ring the cake!

As an addition, I fit an automatic oiler to my chains but I preffer wax as it does tend to keep the back end cleaner. The only thing reccomended in owners manuals a few years ago was old engine oil, brushed on then wipe off the excess.

Think you'd better get the event posted HFG so we can put our names down to go. I prefer nicely crisp bacon on white bread with tomato sauce. No need to trim the crusts though, I like my sarnies 'old school'. I have done a few bits and bobs on my bike (nothing major), but I did once help move an entire bike from one frame (bent) to another (straight). One day it'll be great if we could get together with an old knackered bike and take it to bits. We could then let the girls put it back together again *watches this space for the comments on that one*

Karey, Until we can get something sorted, check out http://www.flamesonmytank.co.za/DIY.htm , http://www.cyclemaintenance.com/ or the must be some book available on the market, like a 'Dummies' guide.....and no, I wasn't implying anything there lol

Not a bad site that Blue. Although it could do with using plain english for the newbies. Nothing beats being shown on you're on bike though. I'm looking at a fortnight before I can get to do Stellas bike.....get the bacon in! lol
