Just found out there a brand new Harley Dealership set up by Laguna M/cycles in Aylesford Kent Its actually situated next to the large Travis Perkins builder merchant in Forstal road. There a Beefeater Inn that does wicked burgers less than five mins away too. Odd I havnt had a mailing from them cause I on their mailing list.... I drove by it last week an see new crated bikes being del there and according to the notice in the Maidstone branch it now open! So if U fancy a ride out to a brand new shop to ogle the big fat Harleys here's yer chance. Andy

Good to see something thriving in the economic recession....must be all those baby-boomers spending their redundancy payments

These new HD dealerships are actually just replacing 4 that closed down a couple of months ago, HD are far from thriving!

Went in there the other day. About ten bikes in a 5 acre showroom!
Everyone wearing HD uniform. Nice friendly guys, but they need to be more than that to make any money. Saw a couple of faces I recognised.
Laguna's taking a bit of a gamble with HD......I would have preferred to see
Victory bikes. There are plenty of HD dealerships in the county and nearby London but only one Victory dealer operating from a very poor premises in Edenbridge. In the unlikely event of me winning the lottery I would favour a Victory Hammer over even a Street Rod......just my opinion. Lagunas have owned that site for a long time they have held Triumph launches/barbies there.

Yep Centurion, St Ledger Doncaster or Sheffield?, Leeds Harley closed don't know if they are part of the 4 that closed down, can't remember the other, however, I think they were owned by the same folk. They need to get real with the prices though, when you see how much the charge in America surely, they could get real. I'm due a service - well MacBeastie is lol in the early part of the year and I'm dreading what it will cost. Anyway, sorry for being a grumpypants, when I'm down at the rally Andy - perhaps you could take anyone who fancies a trip there. ps centurion, how is your wee woofer doing? (not a code) hehehe

Manchester HD was the other dealership thats closed this year, the 2nd one to close in Manchester in 8 years. I used to work in Centurion Harley Davidson down in Chester (hence the screen name) before THAT closed down so all too familiar with HD's prices and corperate shannagans! Wee Woofer is doing great thanx

Ptrovincewide H.D, N.Ireland announced closure on 23rd Dec and will close on the 21st Jan. Sad times ;((.....That leaves no dealership in N.Ireland, so closest is Dublin or Chester.

yup, its always amazed me that there's never been a HD dealership anywhere in Wales, Chester is supposed to cover the whole of North Wales and those in South Wales have to cross the Seven bridge

Centurion, you may know havin worked for HD. Is it because of the franchise theory and the overheads the dealers have to meet to make a profit after HD have had their share. I've been over to the states a few times recently and the prices there are far far cheaper. What they pay in $ we pay in £'s and more. I recently bought a Jacket from my local dealer for £470.00, saw it in US for $420.00. Doesn't take much to work out the mark up we pay out over here on an exhange rate of approx $1.5 to the £.

Partly, it does cost a hulluva lot to set up a Harley dealership because eveything has to meet HD's exacting standards and your allowed very little leaway in how you fit out your showroom etc, the costs of which the dealers are always going to want to recroup. Also, when comparing prices of harley parts over here compared to in the states you've also got to add on VAT and shipping costs of course. The main eye opener for me was recieving parts shipments in for the great, 'all American motorcycle' with the packaging all stamped with the offical Harley logo but also bearing the stamp 'made in Taiwan', 'made in Japan'. 'made in China' etc etc. Hmmm...

S'pose they like everyone else are feeling the pinch. I read recently they are moving their wheel manufacture to China and also H.D are laying off a fair few at their main plant.
