Had a nice run up to Birmingham yesterday and used a different route back today, with some nice lanes and one humped back bridge that I thought about putting air between rubber and road, then noticed the sharp left on the other side, needless to say I didn't go for it.

I went for a ride to Squires, unfortunately I did n't make it! I was on the ring road braking when coming towards a row of stationary cars, only to hear a clunk and a plonk and no resistance from my back brake! I was able to control the bike and slow it enough with the front brake without skidding or locking it up, but the whole mechanism of the back broke was broken! I was able to ride it to a bus stop and pull over but boy, I was not happy! Why would a brake completely fall apart?? I just hope my warranty covers the repairs?? :-(

How old is the bike?

How long have you had it?
was it a trader or private sale?
What exactly has happened to your brake?

Got to be bad maintenance or assembled wrong. CG 125s are bomb proof!

The good news Taboo, is that sounds a simple fix, like OJ said probably a loose bolt, or fixing somewhere. You don't really need a back brake, only for slow riding, maybe a little bit when its wet, you are far better learning to use your front brake more, there is less chance of locking a wheel up, all your weight goes forward under braking, especially on a bigger bike, good luck

Double 6 - I bought it mid of Sept, from the local honda dealer in Shipley. It's a 59 plate, and I was just slowing down in traffic, and it went plonk plonk gone! The long rod thing was loose, the drum and the bracket were separate! I've contacted the shop and they say they have never seen a back brake mechanism completely fall apart unless someone had tampered with it?? I would n't know how to tamper with it, I don't even know how to tamper with it?? They are picking it up tomorrow - it's all a mystery to me??

Plumbski - as I'm new to riding, I'm just following the way my instructor taught me, use the back brake when slowing in traffic, both brakes when you want to stop, especially in the wet. I don't know how else to ride. I remember when I first started riding lessons, I used the front brake all the time, and once I stopped so fast I locked the front wheel dead and went arse over tip over the handle bars!

Well it should be still covered by some sort of warranty, don't let them bully you into paying exhorbitant repair fee's.

There are times when I wish I were a man and this is one of them! I have already stated that this should be covered by the warranty, and I'm hoping they don't argue with me otherwise I will have to go to trading standards, I've had the bike less than 3 months! Thanks for your advice x

Trading standards is a good move, had a bit of advice off them about a defective phone and just a few choice phrases got it replaced by the next morning. Best of luck and hope it gets sorted quickly and with minimum fuss.

@Taboo thats one way of learning, I suppose ouch, at least you won't do it again, just go careful with the back brake as well, and slowly just use more front as you progress, its not so bad on a 125, but as soon as you progress to a bigger bike, you need to be more used to front brake use, otherwise you won't stop, maybe more advanced lessons when you are ready to move on

Your dealer will realise that the PDF that he should have carried out before letting you have the bike was not up to scratch. A four year old 125 should not fall to pieces as you ride and I expect he knows what trading standards are likely to say.
Make sure that you speak to either the owner of the shop or a director of the company. This is important. He has sold you a motorcycle that would not pass an MoT and that is an offence.
If he insists that you or someone you know must have worked on the bike then remain calm and polite and tell him that if he continues to imply that you are in anyway at fault then you will take legal advice.
When you bought the bike he no doubt told you that it had been regularly maintained and it was in first class order. If he's a Honda main dealer you might also like to recount your experience to Honda UK.
I have never heard of a rear brake falling apart EVER.

The garage has informed me today that my brake has been tampered with, as there is no way that it would come loose on it's own. The brake is not only held on by a nut and bolt, but also with wire clippers that are inserted into the nut and bolt and tied on. The only way to remove these clippers are by force, either by cutting or using plyers to unwind them. The bike is garaged and I've only ever left it in the car park at Squires! I don't get it?? Why would anyone want to tamper with my brakes?
