Here's my list which is not definitive but fairly comprehensive:

The risk averse society in which we live. I was over-protected as a child which I have always resented so I can do without it as an adult, thank you.

The Safety Nazis who think that "speed management" is a one size fits all magic bullet which will make us all safer but neglect to enforce acceptable standards of road use.

Richard Brunstrom and similar daft senior police officers who are totally out of touch with what policing's about.

Speed cameras and camera vans.

Jobsworths - particularly civil enforcement officers i.e. parking attendants who have no common sense or discretion.

The European Commission who also think that one size fits all safety legislation benefits all European Union member states.

Cyclists who run red lights and justify it by claiming they're saving the planet.

Cycle lobby leaders who don't want to share any road space with other road user groups - particularly us.

Local Authorities who through sheer prejudice won't include motorcycles and scooters in their local transport plans in spite of their proven advantages in providing mobility, addressing congestion and occupying less space than other modes.

Swinton Bikes for their incompetence, failure to communicate and inability to provide cover for a change of motorcycle on a Saturday - when most people are likely to buy one.

Microsoft for forcing everyone to use their crappy software if you wanted to communicate with other computers so that they could have a monopoly in the market.

Compuserve for failing to admit that their software was incompatible with Mac OS 8.5 and above which combined with the incompetence of the in-house computer geeks who were supposed to help me and failed to do so which gave me 15 months of interminable problems ten years back. All they needed to do was tell me to use another ISP and get a copy of Microsoft Office so that I could read attached files.

That's probably more than enough for the time being so I'll quit while I'm ahead.

I like Cat's novel. I can empathise with you on many of those!

Control freaks that think that the world owes them a favour....together with all the other people with huge chips on their shoulders

Get a life!
