I know the feeling, I have put petrol in my van 3 times because my mind was eslewhere. Each time a full tank £80 to £100 plus the cost of purging it out, wasn't happy.

Meliejayne... No ones words will help how you are feeling right this second.. but you're not alone sweetheart.. you have good friends in here and we've all felt like that... I felt like that the other day when Minx was more excited to go and stay at a friends than be with her mamma.. it hurts.. but it's not permanent and they will be back and they will have missed you like crazy and just dying for your hugs and your smell... Use this time for YOU lovely.. forget the dishes in the sink.. or the washing on the floor... Do Something For YOU.. Anything.. A Bath with music and candles.. talking to a friend you haven't spoken to for ages.. Anything that you long to do when the wee ones are around and you can't because you focus all your love on them... Anything that makes YOU smile and feel a little better than you do right now...

Meliejayne I think what Anne RC is saying is the right way to go. You have to remember that the girls also want to see their dad, which is important for any child. Before you know it they will be home again.

David, for the record petrol put into a modern diesel in any quantity causes untold damage to the system, The other way around, not perhaps deadly to the engine but certainly will make it smoke and maybe not even run, also if more than a few percent will poison the emmision system which in turn will cause long term running problems and be costly to rectify if you need a new cat convertor. SO DO NOT ever run a deisel with petrol in it unless its just a few litres and you then fill the tank to dilute it to around 2-5%max. Otherwise do not turn the key, call for professional help to purge the entire system of contaminated fuel. If you have driven it....then you in the lap of the gods....damage will certainly have been done, but it may not show itself until latter in the cars life if you lucky. Out of hours expect this to cost you around £150 call out,£1 per litre disposal fee,£20 for new filter and around £25 of fresh fuel to prime the system, on top of this youve lost the fuel that was in it! THis is important guys and if you ever have this happen it is by far cheaper to drain and flush the fuel than risk thousands of £s in fuel system repairs. This post is very much in the correct thread!

luckley it was less than 2% and I didnt have any choise but to run it. but I drained most of it and will flush the rest with a new tank in the morning. and yep I'm a plank

You're not a plank Cavywavy... A plank is doing it to a Van.. draining the van of £50 worth of fuel.. then trying to wash the clothes that got covered in the stuff in a washing machine.. clothes and Washing Machine ruined.. Thats being a "plank" There is a bright side to this Somewhere!!

Done it 3 times to my last van 3/4 petrol 1/4 tank diesel on the 3 plank moments I did not know I had done it until the engine stopped, each time on the motorway exit luckily. Cost 1st time £80 for purge through plus £20 diesel added. 2nd time £100 all in plus £20 of diesel added. 3rd time RAC recovery £0 RAC mobile purge ot service £120 plus £20 of diesel added. The van covered another 30K miles and ran like clockwork, good old Mercs for you. Each time the engine refused to run anymore and had 75 petrol to 25 % diesel. And yes I am a self confessed plank 3 times over. All a result of being too busy with work and my mind elswhere.
