I've always said to my boys that I'd want them to get a car licence and maybe a couple of years experience first if they want to learn to ride a bike. So much of what we call "driving" is in fact learning to be a road user rather than controlling the bike or car, and you are less vulnerable inside the proverbial cage. Older son is leaving school next week, car insurance renewal documents came today so I thought I'd find out how much to add meladdo to the policy. Renewal premium for me - 12 year old people carrier worth £1,500 tops - came in £430 comp, with £100 excess. Add in one 18-year-old inexperienced driver and it goes up to £7,000!! I know all about young drivers having to pay through the nose, but that is simply taking the p*ss, surely?
Spending a few hours in the company of a dear friend, knowing that the simpliest of things mean so much to that person and that for a few hours, life was that little bit better.
This also makes me sad too.
Going out into the garden to be assailed by rite din!!
A mother black bird rattling away like a trench rattle and a
mother owl and 3 owlets flying leisurely through !!

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER Dear Mr. Darling, Please find below my suggestion for fixing Britain's economy. Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan : There are about 20 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them £1 million apiece severance for early retirement, with the following stipulations: 1) They MUST retire. Twenty million job openings - Unemployment fixed. 2) They MUST buy a new British CAR. Twenty million cars ordered – Auto Industry fixed. 3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed. 4) They must send their kids to school / college /university - Crime rate fixed 5) Buy £50 of alcohol / tobacco a week there's your money back in duty / tax etc It can't get any easier than that! P. S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances!!
