Sometimes these are represented by

i think i narrowed the problem down to google's popup blocker (part of the google toolbar) when used with IE8. Otherwise it works fine (in IE6 or 7 without Google's toolbar). But only my PC at work is affected which is weird.

Matt I had a problem with selecting the emoticon and it doing nothing last week but it seems ok now.

And just to add i've been using Firefox for 2 years now and it's far superior to the over complex, all singing, all dancing IE bullsh*t thingamy bobbins!
