They're treading on iffy ground there... they can't make someone redundant and then advertise that position... even at a lower salary.

They can of course, ask employees to agree to a pay cut, and many places are doing just that... At the moment, I'd recommend at least considering the pay cut, cos there's not a lot out there for the grabbing. Better to be in work but earning less than to be desperately seeking work and earning naff all.

A new Tesco opened not far from me and there were something in the region of 4,000 applicants for a total of 250 jobs in the place

noooo Lou, soz i dint mek it clear. The posts are redundant what they are doing is readvertising the post with different criteria and enabling them to take on what is effectively trainees on a lesser wage. My job is not affected (for now!) but it will have a big impact on the role we do and will mean increased work. I know what you're saying tho and I am grateful that I have a job, but sometimes its unbearbable and I just wanna tell them all to stuff it! I have more chunks bitten outta my tung than i can count! lol *Aaaaaaarrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and breathe .. :o)*

Is there any union representation where you are? Still sounding pretty borderline and may be worth trying to fight... pretending that posts are redundant, in order to get trainees into them at reduced cost to the employer is pretty naughty!

But you know what I'm like... I'll fight the fight for anyone else and back them to the hilt... yet when it comes to myself, I do the stupid, idiotic thing and shoot myself in the foot by telling the boss to go poke his job when he's being an 'arris and trying to force me back before the Quacks give me the OK!

Admittedly I'm in a dreadful state at the moment, what with hiding from the doorknockers demanding cash I don't have, but generally speaking I'm SOOOoooo much happier than when I was working for that miserable so & so.

I wouldn't recommend doing it exactly the way I did, cos you don't get a penny from the DWP and when you're on zero income, you haven't got any evidence to back up any proposals of regular payments, so your creditors won't enter into any agreement with you and just continue to demand EVERYTHING, while throwing charges willy nilly in your direction because you haven't paid your arrears... Yeah right. That's sensible! That'll work a treat. Numpties!

It's frustrating not being able to find paid employment and it's scary trying to make a living for myself from the sparklies, but my stress levels are minute in comparison to this time last year

Helps having ace friends and family of course, but I don't know why I was in such a panic about losing my job. The savings are pretty much all gone now though, so I may change my tune in a couple of months' time
