Took a late run to Rivvy, arriving at 3.15 pm after stopping at Pimbo for a fag because I like the name.
Met a few of the friendly folk of Chorley Wildhartz [sic] MCC, and saw a quite stunningly-restored Honda CD 175, referred to by Bike magazine as the “Spam Sarnie” motorcycle. A far better machine than its successor, the CD 185, whose build quality was astonishingly poor and is a serious contender for the worst bike Honda ever built.
The ride back was wonderful. The road signs claimed that Sheep House Lane was closed, but it wasn’t - not to motorcycles, anyway - and I had the road to myself all the way to Belmont. (Chug-chug-chug- “Hello, clouds. Hello, sky…” -chug-chug-chug.) After that I stuck mainly to the A-roads; I had an on-off fling with a girl from Coppull Moor way-back-when, before the M65 and M58 were built, and as it got dark I realised I’d forgotten just how darn good the ride back home from that area was at night when it wasn’t too cold and rainy. Nothing much has changed on that route from the old days, except that her cottage has been demolished. Serves her right, too.
A lovely ride out to Pateley Bridge via all the little villages for a spot of lunch. Excellent weather, beautiful blue skies, sunshine a bit chilly but awesome.
Then a mad dash back through country lanes, id never been down before. Watching the sky changing colour as we went. All in all an ace afternoon.
had a good ride upto squires then bike decided it didn't want to go any further. so came home in a recovery truck. no power to fuel pump. no power to coils. no power to fuel injection system. all fuses ok. so its a strip down to trace the wiring
I had a little bimble over to route 59 cafe, my first since my little bump and although a little wobbly at first, I was pleased with my progress and pleased that the beast is fully repaired too :-)
Rideout to meet Steve H at Barnard Castle. I said meet at the castle entrance. 15 mins late, I got a text from him - 'I'm at the cafe opposite the church'. Wot a plonker! Still, had a nice ride to Stanhope, then Hartside - almost deserted Back via Middleton-in-Teasdale. Mostly empty roads - glorious
Centurion and I took part in Darlington and District MAG Santa Toy run in aid of a women's refuge. Splendid ride, everyone in costume. Doing it all again next week from Newton Aycliffe
