wonder if this sort of thing would be useful in a small "news box" on the homepage perhaps? So anyone whether logged into the site or not visiting the homepage would see any recent news items.

Yeah I know it would Mini ... however if they belong to a member who is only a standard member .... its the only way they are gonna be able to say 'its mine' as they cannot post in the forums

Thing is, people are always loosing stuff at gatherings, and I think that putting up a thread like BJ has done is enough. Yes, people who discover that they have lost something can pm a mod, less work for the guys that way.
