There are two hue flaws in calling 999 / 112 over the local number. 1) the 999 operator in located in Aberdeen and has no local knowledge of the UK 2) the 999 operator will route you to the emergency services that serve that base cell. So as has happened to me, I have called for an ambulance to a location I know and know its location, ie my mothers street. the 999 operator routed me to Lancashire Ambulance Service rather than Merseyside. (this was before the formation of the northwest ambulance service), Why? because the sell my phone connected to was the 01695 area, in fact it was located in ormskirk. Eventually i had to call an ambulance by using the 2 way radio in my car. Just beware.
