Canadian pensioner lucky to be alive after 300-lb bear hitches a ride
A GRIZZLY BEAR almost cost an Canadian biker his life last month, when the 300-lb beast tried grabbing a pillion ride.
Reg MacDonald was enjoying a ride near his hometown of New Brunswick when the bear jumped on his motorbike, sending the 74-year-old catapulting through the air. His injuries were so serious he was hospitalised for more than two months. He's convinced a miracle saved his life.
"I am extremely fortunate to be alive," MacDonald said Tuesday. "I should never, ever lived. Somebody intervened for me — there is no question. Apparently a bear ran across in front of the car and jumped on my bike," MacDonald said.
He sustained a multitude of injuries, including 15 broken bones in his chest, two punctured lungs, along with damage to his heart, liver and spleen.
