Well, i've spent the last 5 hours redesigning the Profile Photos section. A complete overhaul of the structure. The only difference you will notice is a massive increase in performance.
What I will notice is less server disk activity.
The change will require me to take the profile pictures (uploading and viewing) down for 30 minutes whilst I...
Rename existing profile photos, removing corrupt/dangerous characters
Create new database structure reading for the change
Index existing profile photos
Add to database index
Change existing website code to reflect new structure.
Wish me luck! :-)
haha very good.
No there were some files that people had uploaded with apostrophes and exclamation marks in the names. Had to be removed. Some files are corrupt and im working on fixing them
ok i've finished!
You will notice a MASSIVE increase in performance, especially when viewing profile pics.
No longer will it take 20 seconds or more to find your files... it's instant.
by the way, this will also increase site performance too in generalm as there will be more resources now to process other pages.
This is one step further in my mission to make the site faster
the same fix has been applied on events now, took all night rewriting the code and database but the performance now of events photos will be 100000x faster
its because someone has uploaded a file with a .jpg extension that is NOT a jpg file! Hence it's tiny, with big red borders and the error means that the site's program which calculates the size isn't able to load the image (Cos it's not a jpg, as it expects).
This is why we need to upload only jpg files, and not files with jpg extensions that are actually PNG or GIF files. PNG and GIF files are fine, as long as they have the appropriate png or gif extension, and not jpg
Been trying to change my profile pic for the last few days & it keeps coming back with Server.MapPath()Error
/ASP 0173:80004005
Invalidpathcharacter
/sites/bm/myaccounts/showphotos.ASP,
What's happening here?,not my pc is it?
mine works ok. U must have a bad character in one of your file names.
Delete the foto causing problems, rename it on your computer and only use LETTERS AND NUMBERS. Then re-upload it and it will be fine
