oh dear I put my questions and answers on the garden thread. Perhaps I could try and copy and paste it to this thread. Thanks for all that advice Gordon, my waterfalls are made of butal (spl) liner and have stones and slate on them to make them look natural, the water is escaping under and around some of the stones so I have diverted the water to just one of the falls to let the other dry out, then hopefully I will be able to re glue the stones back in place. I haven't had the water checked but think it must be ok as I have lots of fish in the pond some of which are only very young, some just getting their colour and lots still black and some really huge fish. The water that goes through the filter also passes through an ultra violet light so most days you can see right down to the bottom of the pond its so clear but I think what is happening there is so much rubbish on the base of the pond this is blocking up the filter also I seem to get a lot of weed/stringy stuff on the waterfall not sure how to treat that. I run two pumps in the pond one for the water falls and one that pumps water through an old fashioned water pump that also flows on to the waterfalls

Hi Looks like your geting it sorted. The U/V tube needs to be changed every 6 months, as the fish have been breading the pond is good, try to hire a pond vac from your aquatic store and vacum out as much rubbish. You will find it best to do this a few times by letting the water settle then have another go 2-3 over the a day. (try not to suck the little fish up) Ha now for the pond keepers nightmare BLANKETWEED: the best product i have used is made by Evolution Aqua called Stop Blanketweed use: 150 Gm per 1000 Gall per week x 3 weeks then once per month. A 500 gm tub @ £9.95 / 1 Kg @ £18.95/ 3.5 Kg @ £49.95 You can leave the waterfall runing in the winter but lift the pump up to take the from top of the pond leaving the warmer pond water at bottom of the pond. Best Regards Gordon.

Gordon thanks again for your advice, I would never have thought about lifting the pump but will certainly do it this winter. Is it blank weed then that is on my waterfalls, did have that little green floating weed growing in the pond which I thought was blanket weed last year but not seen any this year. My plants have run riot growing the biggest they ever have, the iris's are really tall but only had one flower on them this year, normally they are full of flowers, I did hack them right back to basket level this year.

I've heard that you can get pond nets or similar to STOP children and other small animals from falling in? Why on earth would you want to do that?????
