If anyone wants to find what a certain abreviation means, please go to www.bikechat.net and click the appropriate button at the bottom of any page.
Julie - many members now regularly check the stats on the homepage and send a PM to the newest member. It's a great way of getting newbies to stick around and join in (Almost boosts your Karma!).
Excalibur - giving any free account just one free post in the forum would be a really bad idea, trust me. I've seen what these fraudsters and scam artists do if you give them so much as a sniff of free public broadcasting. Get yourself into the chatroom, it's so simple. There's just a text box and a send button! (Additionally you can choose you font colour and opt to send your message to just an individual rather than the whole room).
RK - the idea of NOT showing you who's in the chatroom is so that you'll go in, see there's nobody there, then wait around for someone to join you. If you could see BEFORE going in that there's nobody there, then you'd never go in! So it was a tactical reason, I didn't just forget. And you can see the current chat on the top of all forum pages when logged in. Lastly, it is a REAL chatroom you cheeky sod. And it took me about 2 months to write! And you CAN see who's in the chatroom (Down the side of the chatroom) and also send your message to just ONE person and not everyone. Why do you think this isn't possible in my chatroom???
OK Matt, i'm with you on that now , just thought to break the ice one free shot might get peeps to see what its like and subscribe , but i realize the risks are too big , thanx for responding .

Matt,
I see your point about seeing no-one is there and not going in...doh! I went in in my first week and being a newbie didn't know what to expect so after finding myself on stage alone, dipped behind the curtains and didn't go back in until 11 pm on Friday just gone. I was nearly sober and one of the first couple in but after 30 seconds i wash washed away with a sea of conversations from a group of people who obviously know each other very well. I was talking to Ian at the time and completely lost track of the conversation so I left the room finding Forums a little easier to interact with. I obviously didn't hang around long enough to see all of the features of the room, my apologies but in a full size chatroom the list of conversations move far slower and make the experience a bit more comfortable, only my opinion of course and by the way i'm loving the site mate
yes it does and its really hard getting into the conversation cos the same people chat to each other everyday and have a rapport going its like that feeling when your mate takes you for a night out with all their mates and you feel a right saddo cos you just dont fit in.
or maybe its just cos im a bit shy till i get to know people

Aww julie, how sweet lol
I hope you're listening Matt cos here's two people out of your tens of thousands of members shouting for change! lol And I thought this was a democracy
Rusty and Julie I'm sorry that you feel left out, I feel like that myself sometimes, especially when they've had a few beers, it's a nitemare to make sense of the chat.
Please don't be put off by the banter, yes it's true a lot of them have met and made friends but they are always happy to meet new members in person and welcome them into the room.
If you're relatively new to the internet and the world of virtual chat then it can be daunting but please persevere cos some good laughs are had in there.
Try to get to some of the B M gatherings, or meets as some call them, that way you get to meet the people then know who you're chatting to in the chat room.

I'd use it if it was a bit more newbie friendly with maybe a couple of different rooms for people to dip their toe in. I've never been in a chat room since the old AOL days when it was all new and i was a bit freaked out on Friday. When you think about it these forums are chat rooms just running much slower so peeps can see when to join in!

Kwak,
That's exactly my intention, i'm attending the rally virgin rally, 1st Ure and we're sorting out a camping weekend so by the time thats all done i'll hopefully have met a few good people. I'd enjoy attending the gatherings but i'm a touch far North for most although i'll get to as many as I can
i much prefer the forums cos you have a moment to think before posting and people being under the influence does infuence me i have to say, but i take your point about getting out and about kwak you are absolutely right but as you know practicalities often get in the way of a social life
What's a social life? It rings a bell
I prefer the forums cos I make lost of typos, I can't type and be accurate in chat.
I wonder where they are going to get some virgins from for the rally lol
i don't know what you're all expecting ME to do. I write the code and give these tools to the community (i.e YOU lot lol).
I make things tick over, and you as the club have to make the site feel welcoming and friendly. You all do a great job of this.
If the chatrooms don't feel welcoming... there's nothing I can do about that.
