Jeeez... never thought of that Ric..yeh yr probs rite there. Seem to get that alot in the rear view when the roads are bumpy.. sumtimes think im being flashed cos theres summat wrong.
Its weird, a similar kinda sorta thing happened to me today.
I was pulling out and a ppl carrier comin towards me..the driver waving his hand, so i pulled out, thinking he had waved me on...and he was actually talkin to sumone sat in the back and waving his left hand abart !! (nobody in front passenger seat) !! stupid git nearly ran into me..
Just goes to show eh?
It's that long since hand signals were used regularly I imagine some road users wouldn't even know what they mean. The standard ones I mean, not gestures of annoyance lol
Drive in/around Lundun for a few days Karey - you'll soon get out of the habit of believing that folk in other vehicles are actually aware that other people are on the roads too ;o)
Hand signals, gestures and any other such things by drivers are nearly always directed at their passengers or they're in the middle of a row on their bluetoof handsfree kit... & half the time, when they're flashing their lights or sounding their horn, it's a delayed reaction to something that happened a couple of hundred yards back down the road! Hehehe!
Unless I actually make eye contact with the other driver, or they're really noticeably slowing down, I always assume the gesture's not directed at me... Seems to work fairly well ;o)
Meanwhile, is it OK to foot-wiggle from a car? Not easy to get the door open to do it while traveling at speed, but perhaps a little wiggle in the rear view mirror? Good exercise too!
pmsl @ WB,
My ex usedta hava a Lada ( it was a cheap car to use for him and his brother for work! , the windows usedta come down when the wipers were switched on!) lol ... I'm sure they usedta pedal it
'Fred Flintstone style' ... so its quite possible they used foot-wiggle signals too !
I actually do wait for eye contact, and in that case..he was looking straight at me...hence me pullin out.. ah well.
I know wot u mean abart the Lundun drivers .. i have rellies dahn sahf..and have spent a few hours ont Lunduns biggest car park .. the fekkin M25 ! lol
I hate light-flashers...
Flashy, flashy "Go on, mate - Pull out. I'll let ya..."
BANG!!!!
Smack into bike that was filtering.
Just because someone flashes you, don't make it safe.
The flash is to let you know they're there. That's all - Even says so in the Highway Code.
35 yrs ago i worked in London an a biker shot the lights as i was turning right he hit me in the front wing[nice new red mk3 Cortina!] an as he went over the bonnet i remember his eyes lookin straight into mine, think he may have waved!!!albeit they were vertical! luckily he was ok! i never got the wing repaired painted 'ouch!' on it ! figured peeps would keep outa me way!! but still have dreams about his eyes !!! gave the car to me dad a year later an he replaced the wing!
ooh.... blue touch paper?!?
I can see yr point tt.
Personally i ALWAYS check for bikers, and i find light flashing quite useful in MOST circumstances, as well as courteous.
coming back from Bristol my worst incedent was nearly hitting a sport biker comin around a bend on the wrong side overtaking! plus his mates all following him far to close like lambs to the slaughter!! nearly one almighty sporty biker concertina pile up!!!
Playing Devils advocate here. As I nearly always wave to acknollage a curtious drive
You shouldent need to wave hand or foot for a car pulling in because they shouldn't be sitting on the white line anyway.
Yesterday when riding back from Dorch up over the Ridgeway (another Dorset car park). While filtering past the endless row of cars An Ambulance came up behind me I pulled over then followed as it cut its way through the traffic. The number of times it had to stop as some Muppet tried to move over in the 6" gap they had left from the car in front. If they moved over as they came to a stop in the first place they wouldent cause a hold up. Whats the point in trying to see whats causing the hold up you aint going to get there any quicker.
As for the ones who delibritly pull over to block you I have started to give them a wave as well as it seems to upset them more as they have failed to piss you off Bless them
Ok rant over. Soap box anyone
