Wills, I have been trying to see if that is true about a weak component but I keep finding contradictory arguments.
I always thought a standard Harley engine was nearly bulletproof - I have been wringing the neck of mine!
Maybe time to look at a mechanical insurance policy as my warranty runs out the end of next year. (although thankfully that means I can rip the bike apart and rebuild it how it should have been built in the first place!)
I know Jap bikes are reliable, I raced Yamahas for five years, but God I love my Harley.... it's all about the soul... (and NOT the merchandising!!)
I'm also a HD fan after riding a couple of my mates Harley's a while back,i could'nt afford to buy one so instead bought the v-max back then and till today dont regret buying the max...it was always a buzz riding it ,kept me on my toes big time
Yes you do Nanu lol! and it is all true but I agree with TC and Excalubur too..............I just love my Harley it's in my soul too but common sense and finances have to come into play also here and Im not a bike builder or mechanic!!! ~To be fair, my local HD dealership have been great and more than carried out their obligations re. warranty, even though my bike was 2nd hand, they still honoured the warranty for 1000 mile servicing and new wheels - even when the dealer where the bike was originally bought was being difficult and kept insisting I rode up there or forget the warrantly! My local HD dealer advised and recommended I go to HD customer services/complaints which I did and won my case. They didnt have to go to all that trouble but they did and they have always looked after me (although I am also a HOG Chapter Member based at that dealership now too so one of their own I guess??!!). My argument is, that I shouldnt have had to keep going back to have things re-done that should have been done right/not happend at all in the first place. It doesnt do much for your trust and faith in the after care service or the quality of the bike in the first place does it? Also, bikes costing what HDs do and the qudos of the HD name should count for more but I am now of the opinion that that isnt the case, which is a great shame!!! I want to be able to ride my bike when I want, know its up to it and that its reliable - not quite so sure now though! Hence much as I love HDs and my little "baby" I am seriously deciding on jap cruiser quality and reliability for the future as I really do know it is there from speaking to biker friends who can vouch for it in reality - I dont want to keep worrying about corrosion, is the crome up to all weathers and has the after care service been up to what you have had to pay for it etc etc !!!............thinking Honda Shadow now............my first ancient Honda CG 125 was truly "indestructable" and just went and went no matter what......................as long as the Shadow isnt too big for me, I know it's alot lighter then this may be the future for me..............a shame but there you go......................
No argueing against facts BH and yes there are many good jap cruisers to consider, the shadow being only one of them you also have the Intruder's,Marauders and Virago's ...but,you will miss the Sportster once its gone
I know, I will for sure but we all have to move on sometimes and alot of good bikes out there..........sat on an Intruder and Marauder this weekend will take some getting used to again no doubt ............brother in law has a Virago and swears by it.......rather than to it pmsl!!!......time and the right bike coming along will tell I guess Excalibur ..........not rushing into anything though just seeing what happens now lol!
