Hi Shell, sorry i'm late but i'd finally booked some me time and i wasan't giving that up.
Right i was going to put this in a pm but then thought maybe others are trying to make the same decision,so,basically its gonna be a long post so, if you've no interest in chinese bikes or my opinion of them, your excused now
First thing i would say is get yourself on the 'chinese bike forum'
just google it,its free to join and you can find loads of reviews and blogs on all the chinese bikes. Its also a great source of help, advice, and local stockist/mechanics ect.The two searches i found most useful was just make and model and then they have this fantastic section that tells you what your bike is a clone of and the names other chinese manufacturers produce them under. Some bikes can have up to 5 clones, invaluble knowledge when sourcing parts. If there is something specific you want to know and can't find it just post, someone will always reply within 24 hours.(sorry Matt,i know thats a bit of a no no but its not a social site)
I wouldn't swap my bike, she has caused me some major problems in the past but they we're all down to either problems sourcing parts or mechanics with no real experiance.Glad to say neither of these are a problem any longer, there even starting to turn up at breakers now.
No idea what style this one is,nor yours Matt, but babys certainly not plastic.Shes heavy(well,to me anyway)and very sturdy, shes been down the road and still looks good, her couple of wee dings just give her charector.
Would say that does seem a bit dear tho i've not looked yet,is she super snazzy Will have a quick nosey later.
Anyway,if you've reached the bottom of this and your bored rigid..........you were warned,if however you have found anything helpful in it,good luck and let me know what you decide.
SV there is actually a skyjet sj125 owners website believe it or not!!..you may also want to have a look at Avalonia m/cycles in bolton they do a skyjet F5 sport £1295 otr with 12 month parts & LABOUR!(that can be a great saving) & it,s fully built
The majority of the chinese 125's are copies of suzuki n honda , so suzuki n honda parts should fit , jus a case of knowing which bike it is a copy from .
The bigger 600cc+ chinese bikes use genuine suzuki n honda engines , only the casings are changed .
That sounds a pretty good deal old red
B good to see yourself and ian at the ride-out on the 7th Shell , Tell Ian to have his celebrations on friday nite into sat morn , then he can b recovered 4 sunday
Hehe! I'm sorry Shell - I just get easily.... oooh shiny! ------>
There are plenty who just lurk the forums Cassie, so I'm glad you posted the info here... it all helps those of us yet to sort our biking lives out
Thanks for your replies everyone,
Cassie, thanks for taking the time out to give your advice & no it wasn't to long.
Red, even better to know there is someone close, I thought Stockport was the closest.
Fast, yup its a replica of the Honda CBR
Wanna thats ok hon I ..... ooohhhhh hmmm shoes -------->
Hi Shell. I've no experience of the clones so can't help at all there I'm afraid but as you know I went down the *owning a 125cc - then test* route which worked very well for me so if you decide to do that. I know you'll still be taking the DAS test but all experience is good experience.
PS - I've got a well maintained 3.5 year old CG125 (with lots of extras) for sale and whilst not very racy to look at it's still fun to ride and when you pass it on to your 19yr old son, he will probably find it cheaper to run and insure than a CBR replica plus it will hold its value very well being a Honda.
Thanks for the offer Roachy
The insurance isnt a problem, have found one thats quite reasonable for it & his dad will be paying that for the 1st year, the main reason for thinking about a new bike was so that I knew its full history, kinks & quirks before he gets it & I will know just how often, where & how its been serviced & treated & ridden once I have finished playing
So far from what I have heard & the homework I have done I am not put off at all
I understand where you are coming from. It's a minefield buying vehicles, esp when (if like me) you have no mechanical knowledge.
That's why I bought one of my training school's bikes, I knew who'd owned it from new and despite it being ridden a good few thousand miles and suffered more than its fair share of drops it was in very good condition, well maintained and its crashbars meant all the drops caused no damage plus being a CG, it's pretty much bullet proof.
Can understand the desire to buy new though, and faired. Faired bikes are so much nicer to look at in my opinion but they don't topple as well - as I've found out!
Crash mushrooms !!
Lol My SV already had them fitted when I got it & I will prob get them for this, especially when my son gets his hands on it
Ian has had me doing my homework lol , what Q's I need to look at before getting one etc etc & everyone on here has been great with the advice. The Skyjet is a sports one too so riding position etc will be almost same as SV , its just a bit smaller to sit on & lighter.
Yep, got em (although had 2 topples before had a chance to fit them) and 1 since.
I thought the crash bungs would save the fairing but in reality, they don't, although they do help a bit but they're really designed to protect the crank casings. Having said that, my fairing has got off very lightly, it's the indicators that took the brunt and at £95 a pair, they aren't dirt cheap to replace so they're held together with electrical tape but not as snazzy looking as Ziggy's!
Good point about the sportier riding position. That will prepare you more for your SV. Bet it will be really fun to ride too.
Yeah Ian rode it back, as its not restricted & said he had great fun on it & in his words 'want one to play on'.
Cannot wait to get it on woodhead !! Have a feeling Ian will beat me to that tho lol.
my wife owned the hyousung aquila 650 (v-rod replica) and had a lot of fun on it ..sold it to her sister just before the move , quite fast as well 200+k/p/hr ...oops, sorry you're discussing 125's here !
