Those who only get 2Mbps
but have an "8Mb line", please let me know what happens when you choose
to retry using a server close to you (The options you get at the end of
the test)
I'm the opposite way round I think... the line's only capable of 2Mb... the ISP says it's an 8Mb service???
Wish I was in a cabled area... I'm liking the Virgin cable speeds!
thanks everyone for all your replies.
W/B... latency/ping depends on a lot of things and isn't something you can accurately go off. The throughput/bandwidth is what's important.
And your ISP can give you 8mbps, but only if your line provider (BT for example) allows that and if you're close to the exchange.
e.g, your bike might so well over 70mph, but the laws restrict you to 70mph. Your bike is still fast, but there's other factors at play restricting you.
Similar probs here only 2mb service from local exchange,
(although being a true Yorkshireman pay for 1meg and get 1.8)
but brand new fibre optic cable runs right past my house to Scarborough
Scarborough is "alledgedly" the fastest broadband in europe
Em
dont think so. I have 100mbps. :-) Glass fibre also. Think it's throttled to 60mbps in the UK (i might be wrong).
I know Sweden also have 100mbps now. Woooo.... it's so fast! (I can download a full movie in 10 seconds if I want, not that I would of course lol)

Re; Scarborough, faster broadband.
This is due to the Earth's natural rotation in conjunction with it's magnetic field and the fact that as a result of this combinations, electrons travel faster the further east you are.
This is why a lot of modern technology emanates from Japan.
It's true I tell you ...
