Ive fitted a short ebay exaust. Its now ridiculously loud. What do we think of loud pipes? Can i do anything to reduce the nouse? ( other than changing the pipe again)!
I actually prefer to be quiet and stealthy. Get passed the cars without disturbing the drivers concentration. Better to anticipate drivers than expecting them to see you. Just slow down for that couple of seconds, then back on the gas
My 1970s t150 exhaust is loud and legal , my wife can hear me coming home , if someone does not like it that is just life people just moan about anything . always a rebel
I like a fruitier note than what comes as standard these days, but nothing obnoxiously loud. The "loud pipes save lives" argument lacks empirical evidence. Furthermore, opinion-based "facts" often overlook the physics of sound travel. What saves lives is training and just doing it better.
Of more concern loud pipes can lead to bike bans. That's not something we're experienced in the UK yet, but it's happening on the Continent - it's a real thing, not just scare mongering. For any aspiring politician in an area that sees a lot of bikes, and irritated locals, this makes us an easy target. Hopefully the outcome will be just 'sound cameras' which will keep access open and not impact on local businesses.
Really though it's all a bit "listen to how fast I think I am" 🙂
For a better (imho) view on loud pipes see you tube the workshop and his take on the empirical evidence. In my experience these days there are far more loud cars than bikes. And I bet you average jo non biker thinks that its bikes if they just here it. As for loud pipes everyone makes the assumption that loud pipes are all about making car drivers sit up and take note. How many people do you see walking into the road while oggling their phone. How many people on push bikes do you see not taking due care. Loud pipes are not just about bikes and cars. Not in my book anyway
