BMW K100rs. - Bike won`t start. Had bike few months, was going well except when we went anywhere we were afraid to leave it standing for more than a couple of hours cos battery kept going flat. New battery fitted, thought great end of prob.......but now won`t start at all. Seems like no spark at plug. Someone said it might be starter relay so purchased and fitted new one. Still no joy. Bike turning over fine so power ok. Any help/advice appreciated.

If the bike is turning over ok, then that proves two things; firstly that the starter relay is fine and secondly that the battery is probably ok as well. I'd be looking at the coils, bad earths, ignition pick up, things like that.

On the K100 you've got to remove the black box with the ignition amplifier in it in order to get at the battery, and yes, it's a bit of pain to do so.
Worth checking that the multipin connector to the ignition amp is properly seated, and that there's no corrosion on any of the pins.
Might be worth a posting on one of the BMW forums such as Gabfesters or the BMW Club, where you join at least part of the forum without being a club member.
There's also k-bikes.com, and an English-language forum on the German flyingbrick.de website.

A mate of mine had similar problem on a Honda Shadow, I think it was a problem with the wiring from the rectifier intermittantly shorting out so might be an idea to try and check for any obvious corrosion/damage to the wiring as well as cheking the multipin plugs.

No Ian, cos turning over okay. If it was kill switch it would be dead. Nuttydriver. Think multipin plug ok but will get it checked along with wiring for corrosion. Thanx lads x

This might help, or there again frighten you off!

hrsbstaff.ednet.ns.ca/bvogel/K100/download/bike-wont-start1.htm (with an http:// before it)

There's always the possibility that something electronic has gone kaput, but that would need a BMW specialist.
