Although free speech has long been recognised as a common law right in Britain, it also has a statutory basis in Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights (the “Convention”), which has been incorporated into UK law by the Human Rights Act 1998. Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights provides the right to freedom of expression and information, subject to certain restrictions that are "in accordance with law" and "necessary in a democratic society". This right includes the freedom to hold opinions, and to receive and impart information and ideas. Freedom of Speech protects your opinion on a matter not the words you choose to use while stating your opinion . Apart from that section 12 of the site rules states ….. · Offensive or vulgar language will not be tolerated, a constant disregard of this rule will result in a ban (temporary or permanent). Racial, sexual, religious, ethnic or other slurs are PROHIBITED. Be polite and respectful of other members of this community at all times.

I do think it's interesting that Freedom of Speech comes with rules.
Sort of beats the idea of Freedom of Speech

well Ragnar the E.U makes rules about freedom of speech so nobody can mock the great Brussels democratic way of thinking it,s our way or no way . Hows that for a political debate starter.

Must say I'm a little 50/50 about having politics on here.
I made the mistake of getting political on Facebook (keeping it off BM) as I had a number of BMers connected with me there. I also have strong opinions on politics, EU referendum vaccinations etc which offend others.

I'll watch this thread carefully. As long as it stays respectful and tasteful then it can stay in my opinion. The thread title indeed gives people enough warning to avoid it if they don't want to discuss politics.

But let's not lose half of our members due to silly politics eh

Final word on politics...it's all self-serving bollocks,built upon greed and envy,and they will screw you whichever way you face,so trust none of them and the world could survive quite happily without politics OR religion...

I for one will never discuss politics either online or off, being from where I am I saw enough of what politics can do to last me a lifetime by the time I was 10 years old.

However people have the choice whether or not to interact with a thread which may or may not be controversial.

I like to see interesting topics on here, there are actually a few I would like to post myself but some might be a tad too much and best left to fbook x

Stay clear of politics and religion, it's stirs up to many emotions for a lot of people. Also politicians don't deserve any space on this site.
