Choke not working

Hi all. Can anyone out there help me with a problem?? I have a 1981 Yamaha XS400SE and the choke has stopped working completely. Makes it a bugger to start but once it warms up it seems to run ok, apart from the usual tick over problem well known in these bikes!! Probably needs a good carb clean but I'm not a great mechanic so would like some advice before trying anything.. Thanks Spike

Hi Spike, Best advise before trying anything is to get yourself a workshop manual and read the relevant section before pulling bits apart. This link may be of help with your tick over issues. http://www.motorcyclekb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/uk-classic/2...b-question
