The Caberg one I have flips up as well and has the integral sun visor, but I love the free feeling with the open facer, I have been visibility as well - ooooh and it doesn't squish my cheeks into chipmunck lool-a-likies. On the motorway though I have to admit the full facer feels safer, especially with projectile bugs

Ploughed into the back of a car in my youth. Got thrown through the back window. Thanks to the fullface I got off lightly. Seen a few people come off and slide face down, thankfully never in open face lids.

Individuals choice, open face only protects the top and back of your head... not for me

Full face every time for me... don't want gravel marks on my cheeks when doing knee downs :-)

I have a Caberg flip front lid. I am on my second one. If you look at my profile photos you will see what happened to my lid when i hit the side of a car at less than 30. One side of the lid scraped along the tarmac the other side and front hit the car putting a dent in the door sil of a Rover 75. The flip mechanism still works flawlessly, so i bought another one.

i think its each to there own on this one as we have had this debate so many times, i wear a shorty helmet but thats my choice which is what makes us all individuals on bikes !!

Have worn open face for over 15 years now. At the end of the day, it's about what risk profile you want - we all accept a level of higher risk in riding a bike for a number of reasons - the same applies to the lid you wear. To be fair, I ride a cruiser, so I'm not doing crazy speeds or knee down corner - if I was riding a performance bike, I'd probably think differently. But for riding my VN900, I like the wider field of vision and openess and the additional protein intake from the bugs... :-)
(plus you get to properly grin at the car drivers encased in their boxes...)

I have to go with open face too. Prefer to see where I'm going. I have a Caberg open face but the visor covers your full face so no bugs. I have a full face too, that I used to wear for long runs as I find open faces are not much good at high speeds. Ended up with the visor flattening your nose. or the wind gets underneath and the lid tries to act as a parachute.

But my new bike has a full screen, first bike I've had with a screen and the reduction in wind at high speeds means this no longer happens

As for bugs and full faces. If you have the visor open you are creating a wind tunnel effect that sucks them right in there.

I'll probably get slated for this but one of the reasons I ride a trike is because I don't have to wear a lid. Don't get me wrong, if I'm out for a run or at night I'll put an open face on but for pottering around town in nice weather I don't.
I'm fully aware of the risks and I must admit to always asking the pillion to wear one as I've no desire for a mistake I might make to injure someone needlessly.

So who rides wearing one of those us shorty style, shouldnt be worn in the uk ones? as im thinking of getting one.
Ive used full face an open face, prefer open face myself, yes it is a bit of a gamble, but with all this health and safety smothering crap about it feels good, to chance it.

Full face for me - though if I wasn't riding a sportsbike / naked I am sure I would wear an open face. At the end of the day its all personal preference.

As a kid (8ish) a bike with with female pillion arse ended my dads van (escort) rear doors were V'd in roof as well ,rider had hit that ,breaking his legs.Girl on the back went over the top .She came in our house with virtually no face left as she landed face first the other side. Not pretty, nor was the state of the Z650 that got dragged into our back yard untill it was collected.
In 95 I had a bad smash.Wearing an AGV lid a brand that I stand by. I've always worn full face because of the injuries I witnessed as a kid. After my smash I inspected my helmet.I was knocked unconscious , there was a good 10mm of the front of the helmet ground down by the road, does nt really need thinking about to my mind, no math to do .
