Fatal and serious motorcycle crashes in Derbyshire fell by 40% during a high-profile summer campaign, according to newly released figures.

The road safety partnership said 69 incidents were recorded between April and September - 46 fewer than during with the same period in 2009.

The campaign saw nearly 20,000 riders given a safety guide, backed by media publicity and speed camera patrols.

The guide showed accident black spots and gave tips on safe biking.

Ch Insp Steve Wilson, head of roads policing at Derbyshire Police, said: "This campaign is a good example of how the organisations responsible for cutting road deaths and injuries in Derbyshire can work together.

"The road safety partnership allows us to coordinate our efforts and ensure that we're using the right combination of publicity, training, policing and road improvements."

Hmm, you mean everyone has stopped going up the Cat and Fiddle then??

God knows how much money it has cost the coppers to police that with cameras helicopters etc etc

Yes, Policing is expensive. But if it saves a few road deaths, it can quickly pay for itself.
