This topic is for you to tell everyone else if you've ever had any 'nearlies',.. or OMG moments while out on two wheels. The ones that need a VERY strong coffee afterwards, and how many years you've been riding too.

I went through some amberish red lights in 1978 and hit a mark two ford escort police panda car chock in the drivers door woops
only broke my thumb and the plod had to climb out of the passenger side door lived a charmed life since then touch wood

While doing my first CBT my instructor said I was going out on the road, even tho I said I didn't feel ready as I still hadn't got clutch /throttle control sorted.
I took a left hand bend too fast and ended up on the other side of the road, hurtling towards a car, the look on the driver's face will never leave my memory.
I managed to avoid a head-on collision and rode along the side of the car, narrowly missing the barrier to my right, then rode back over to the left hand side and came to a stop at the traffic lights. All happened within the space of a few seconds but it was happening in slowmo from where I was sitting.
What shocked me the most was I wasn't scared at all.
Thankfully I did master the clutch throttle control and never had another near miss again, even tho I couldn't master the practical test I managed years of on-road riding before I had to give it up due to lack of funds.
about a month after my CBT going round left hand bend and becoming transfixed on a car coming the other way...bit like kwak above I guess. I now understand that I have to focus on where I want to go and not 'at' what I want to avoid. But a damn scary lesson....shudder shudder. Think I put the wind up phantom1539 who was behind me! lol
was hit by a flying sheep in scotland last may. it jumped off a bank at the side of the road and hit the side of the bike ...big wobble but managed to stay on. no damage - bet the sheep had a bloody sore head though stupid thing!
On my last Kwak 750,about 23 yrs ago,I was riding sedately down a very steep hill in Hertford.At the bottom of the hill is a left turn into the local park and the road continues past this turn up over a hump back bridge.As I got within a few yards of the junction a car pulled out of the road & across my path before driving up the hill. I hit both brakes so hard I locked both wheels before fishtailing to a halt halfway up the bridge-somehow keeping upright! I still don`t know how I managed to miss the car. I was so angry I spun the bike round in the road & sped off after him before pulling him over at the top of the hill. The driver was shaking as much as I was-probably because he thought I was gonna kill him,but I remained calm-ish & politely pointed out the error of his driving,although I reckon he`d already figured that out for himself by then.
And that`s why I always treat everyone else on the road as if they`re all out to kill you-it`s the only way to keep alive!!
Had had a bit 'altercation' in Inverness once involving a broken nose,at least I got a bed that night,was on the journey back home when the dried blood in my nose started to become fluid again,it was a cold journey, the inside of my visor became coated with a pinkish/red covering just as i leant into a right hander 2 miles from home.
Out of the red mist all of a sudden there was this sheep..................

My mate was telling me today about his dad who was a local ton up lad on his norton in the 50s. He went over a blind summit far too fast, hurtled down the other side where there was a horse & cart stuck across the road in the dip between two hills. He had no chance of stopping but fortunately it was a whopping great cart horse so he made a split second decision, crouched down on the tank and went between it's legs and underneath it. He reckons his dad had horsehair stuck in his goggles. Dunno if this is a rural myth but it made me chuckle
was doing a distance run for charity eariler this year and fell asleep on the M4 between London and Cardiff, Luckily for me my bike tracks pretty straight at 80mph, so woke up down the road a bit a little bewilkdered and convinced it was time for coffee
my nearly was in 1979 just 17 passed my test and was on my way to work on my Kwak kh 400 passing an artic i found it wasnt as fast as i thought ! car approaching i braked, bike went down i went under side of lorry and came out between rear wheels. only a couple of wounds and was sick through the shock,it took me ages to get back on the road and ride again, and that was my nearly..... nearly dead !!!
1st one I was out on the way to a rally , Mr P in front & UK Harley behind ... it was wet, & was my 1st time with some luggage ... a trainer in each pannier ... we were coming down hill to a roundabout when I hit my brake just a wee bit too hard & found myself fishtailing down the rd, as others have said it was all in slomo for me & how I managed to pull up beside Ian & not take him out to this day neither he or I know ... It was the Len Goodman shout of SE-VE-RN as he looked at me that brought me to my senses.
The 2nd time was when I was out on a lesson with Ian & a car decided that I was small enough for him to undertake on a 2 lane road, only thing was that there was a car to my right as the one forced his way past on the left ... Ian seemed to forget we have bike to bike coms as he flew past me & caught up with the driver at the lights
This was my little 'nearly' that made me think of the topic. It happened, I think in August this summer while on me way over to the lakes.
Single carriageway road, national speed limit, and at the point of interest, solid white lines on BOTH sides of the road.
I came into a section where there's a bridge, which for most cars the max speed would be about 35, but to my ST13 on a dry day is a good 45 to 50. The road turns sharply (right) into the bridge (with 4' high stone walls either side) so the view of traffic is restricted a little till they are on the bridge. While I was cranked over on the bridge, still on my side of the line, I saw a tractor coming the other way, and at the same time heard the siren,....... Ahh!
I assume the ambulance driver was allowing for cars to come over the bridge a bit steadier than me, and to be able to see their roofs too, this must have been why he considered it safe to overtake on the approach to a bridge, over solid white lines immediately before a blind spot!
Ok, the driver looked as terrified as I felt, I tested the ABS, and the sole of me left boot too, but I'm obvioulsy still here. I just needed 20 mins at the side of the road to stop, err,....... shaking?
