Hey all,

It seems that there is a crossover with Bike and Scuba Diving, so I just wondered how many divers there are loitering on this site and if anyone would fancy a UK dive if the weather's too rubbish for riding?

I'm a dive instructor and my local sites are Capernwray, Blue Lagoon ('Blue' ha ha), The Rez (fun underground dive site near Stoke) and Eccy Delph. Or North Wales for open water.

Gill.

Bloke I used to work with was into diving, doesn't one of these places have a bus in it or something? Can't remember exactly, some sort of chamber underwater where you can take your mask off comes to mind as well. I'm sure you will enlighten me.

They pretty much all have buses in them, I'm not sure if it's planned or just bad driving.

They normally flood quarries and put tanks and military stuff in for us to play in, Capers has a couple of huge fairground horses you can ride which makes for some trippy photos.

You can pretty much take your mask off whenever you like, I'm sure it's not regulated... Unless you mean in an air pocket? I've not heard about that one. There's a helicopter that students always get stuck in because they forget about the tank on their back, and they suddenly have this look of fear (picture eyes through a helmet before a crash) which I find really funny because they all do it. I think they forget they can still breathe...

An air pocket yeah that was it I think. Some sort of concrete thing underwater with air in.

yea i love diving, I'm mad about it. I got my PADI Rescue Divers last month (only been diving a year, and not often). Now I'm in a club and we go for pool training every Thursday night, some dives at the weekend too. The lake near me has a little house in it you can go in.... but it's SOOO COLD down there.

Matt - that wouldn't be Vivien would it?? There's a house in there and it's the coldest dive I've ever done, but the 3mm wetsuit in February probably didn't help. I did my Rescue there a long time ago. How did you get to be a Rescue diver after only a year of not diving often lol??

Pete - Re abuse, is that a good or bad thing?

I have done my PADI open water but been diving on and off for years, learned when I was a kid from my dad and a guy up the street who ran the BSAC club, used to help my cousin out as well then didn't do it for years until I did the PADI, its seems to be more acceptable abroad..... would be good to get back into it again......if you want good dive waters Ullapool in Scotland has some very clear waters for the UK and waters ok too (Gulf Stream)....Portland though is rubbish poor vis unless its the top or bottom of the tide

No, i live in Holland. The lake is "Aquabest". I had a 12mm (7+5) and the water was lovely and warm at the top... but at 7m there was a really noticable temp inversion. It was like a slap in the face. So cold my face went totally numb and I started to loose the feeling in my fingers (as did my buddy, who is a trained army special ops guy lol). I did my OW in Australia last year. I was so hooked that I signed up for my AOW on a weekend liveaboard the day my OW finished. Then I didn't do much else after that, back in holland for the winter. But last month we went to Egypt and I did my Rescue course. I have about 30 dives now lol. See my topic in events about going to Egypt this year for my birthday in November. Shark School is on in Marsa Alam. You're more than welcome to join (still don't officially have a buddy yet to go with lol)

Oooh yeah divings lovely!!! No it's not, I've looked at your photos and there's a bl***y SHARK in the water!!! Now I don't know whether you spotted it in there with you and I'm no expert but I don't think sharks like us (they're like the french in that way apart from the fact the french don't EAT us) I daren't even put my head under the water in the bath after seeing that photo. I mean didn't you hear the derrr der, derrr der, der der der der der music.

Should be "GirlyDog"... shall I rename your account? lol.

Sharks are no problem, hence I'm doing a shark school in November hopefully.

I suggest you watch "Sharkwater", I think you'll be very surprised.

It's the media which has caused humans to be "ok" with the slaughter of 90% of the oceans sharks - mostly for illegal finning to feed eastern asia.

If we kill anymore sharks then the world's ecosystems are gonna be in big trouble. If people learn about sharks and start to do more to save them then they might have a chance.

Soapbox = OFF, Rant = OVER.
