PP I am sure you get to see the aftermath of speeders but I personally think that this government are really taking the p155 out of the drivers of this country. I am with out doubt that they use speeding as an excuse for topping up local purses and cover cuts made by the said government - not dissimilar to parking tickets, WEEE, and tax on beer due to binge drinking. Couple that with taxation on rubbish and fuel I think we get our fair share each and everyway - now this is probably in the wrong thread now :-)
I am sure you will repeat your last statement if you actually go to a fatal car v bike where the biker is speeding with the total disregard for other road users safety. Yes I have seen the aftermath of speeding. to be specific I have been to two car v bike fatalities.
One of them the biker hit the drivers door. the biker then when through the window, through the driver and out through the other window. The biker survived with only cuts to his thighs and the loss of his penile sheath.
The second again the biker riding at excessive speed hit the side of an arctic lorry. we had an enjoyable half an hour looking for his head. We found it about 50 yds from where it should have been.
I hear exactly what you are saying PP. I couldn't condone any excessive speeding. We all do it and we all take the chance. I know people who have been fined for 1 mile over the limit. I myself have been done for 70 on a dual carriage way - TWICE OK I was in my van but the van has computors running it along with ABS and what ever else they stick in the things nowadays. I was also not in any dangerous places. Scamera vans are a way up the highway but the scamera is trained on the bend you are coming around. Its nothing WHATSOEVER to do with safety - if it was it would get my full backing and respect.
I wouldn't want your job and I think you are are first class chap for doing it especially when you see some of the utter scumbags that we have within our society you must have to deal with. You get my support and respect not the others I am affraid.
I am actual job is a Computer engineer. My ambulance work is purely voluntary with the Red Cross. We provide front line support cover for the Ambulance service taking some of their 999 calls when a trust vehicle is not available. If anyone relies on the ABS and computers in their vehicle to stop them then they should not have a driving licence. they are safety AIDS not a licence to drive like a nob right up the back end of another vehicle in the rain.
My point was that my van is capable of being drove at 70 mph on a dual carriage way like it is on a motorway - money grabing is the part of this conversation I am against - why are the scamera vans not out side schools, homes for the elderly or accident blackspots? Why? well thats easy not enough money raised in those places.

Just to make a point about the camera convo, did you know that County Durham is the only county in the uk with only 1, yes 1 fixed camera and if you come across it, you're lost!!
Our accident statistics are among the best in the country so surely that proves other measures are just as effective as cameras or we're just far better drivers than the rest of you lot
