A chemistry teacher wanted to teach his class a lesson about evils of liquor,so he produced an experiment that involved a glass of water,a glass of whisky and two worms.'Now Class.Observe the worms closely,'said the teacher, putting a worm first into the water. The worm writhed about, happy as a worm could be in water. The second worm he put into the whiskey. It writhed painfully about, and quickly sank to the bottom of the glass, dead as a doornail.'Nowthen Class, what lesson can we divine from this experiment?' the teacher asked.A hand went up at the back,'Drink whiskey and you won't get worms?'

Me thinks it is a 'grub' in tequila and not a 'worm'

It's known as a Maguey worm although its actually a caterpillar. Very high protein and nutritious

And not a grub either although Mexicans regard it as grub gusanos de maguey estilo pachuca (maguey worm salad) Heat 1 cup oil in a thick skillet and fry Maguey worms until crisp. Remove and drain on paper towels. Heat 4 cups oil in a deep saucepan or deep fryer. Press tortillas in a mesh strainer, and fry one by one until they become crisp and take the shape of the strainer. Drain well on paper towels. To serve, place a little ball of masa on each of 8 plates, and put tortilla "baskets" on top, pressing to fix in place. Fill tortillas with worms. Garnish with lime slices and flowers. Serve with guacamole and green sauce.

Cant say I've ever tried worms but chocolate coated honeyed locusts are nice, really crunchy but terribly fattening.
