Hi all, have recently passed my test... Soo excited!! and now looking at bikes. Can anyone give me any feedback on "adventure tourers"? I've been recommended the transalp but in reading up it sounds like the lights are not so great, or brakes and some say its dull. I'm tall (over 6ft) so want a tall bike. I do like the look of BMW's but have been warned they're pricey to maintain. Has any one tried/got a Kawa versys as they're supposed to be able to do rougher stuff too or is that just marketing hype? Ultimately I want a bike that I won't outgrow in a few months, that will go well on roads in the UK and that I can take touring when I have the experience to say Marocco that can do a bit of rough.... Any ideas??
Good on you passing the test
PM sent with loads of links for BMW advice. Why don't you have a go at one of the off-road courses that BMW offer in Wales? Just do a seacrh on World of BMW or call into any dealer. They're very good and no, I'm not on commission!
I suppose it's all relative but Charlie and Ewen did not pay anything for there GS's lol, What about the KTM they were turned down for, not as common at the Beemer. The Triumph Tiger is more than worth a close look too!!! It's easy to upgrade lights with better bulbs that are available, as to breaks not been upto it?? What was the tester doing constant stoppies? Every Honda I've owned has had more than adiquate breaks, I owned an XL250s back in the late 70's and even two up long trips were a joy even two up never had any probs with the breaks back then.... you should test all the bikes you can in the genre and make your own mind up, it's a fair wedge you'll be spending on a new bike (be cheeky and ask if any of the bikes come with subsidised workshop time? i.e. a bit of free servicing,) Hope that's helpful Andy
