From now on you must be logged in to be able to access anyone's photos. You must also have a profile created. Previously you didn't need to login to access other people's gallery pages. Additionally: It is now possible to run a full search without being a full/premium member. If anyone has any opinions on what pages should be available to who, please let me know. Pages can be restricted to: Full members, Standard members (with profile), standard members (logged in with no profile) and those who aren't logged in at all.

I quite liked the fact that you could go in and have a look at peoples fotos wivout being logged in as they then didnt know that you had been looking at them

well u can do that when logged in, just changed your preferences so that your views aren't recorded. Go to your views here... http://www.bikermatch.co.uk/sites/bm/myaccount/pm/inbox...inks_views and click disable under the list of who you've viewed. Note however that the server DOES still record who you view, but only I can see that data.

But Matt, would that mean that I can't see who I've viewed too? I still wanna see, but not the recipient - I forget what it says in their profile and don't want to look like a stalker with multiple views!!! (or give the wrong impression) lol

Cheers

I dont like the fact that anyone ie non members can view what events i plan to go to. Therefore, someone who knows me but is not even a BM member can see when I'm away from home, where I am and who I'm with..... Hence, you wont find my name on any upcoming events....I just contact the organiser with a pm. Which is, in reality, counter-productive because if everyone did that then no one would go to events because they would think no one else was going.... Seems strange we cannot PM email addresses and phone numbers to people we have already met, but it's ok to advertise to the world when we are away, where we are going to, how long for, and who with....

Julie - give me 5 minutes. Rossi - that's right, you wont be able to see who you've viewed either. Paul - Point taken (even with the sarcasm). These are things you just need to tell me about, drop me a note via the contact page etc. Give me 5 minutes and I'll see what I can do!

Julie - you can now only search for "Smokers" or "Non Smokers". You have to go into the profiles to find out how much they smoke. Hope this helps, I'm gonna do the same with drinking

No sarcasm there Matt. Just an honest opinion. We have already spoken about site members security. I dont think I can add anything via the contacts page. At the end of the day I will use the site in a way that ensures my security, and so should others. Hence, not adding my name to events for the above reasons. Yes, I can act the fool, clown, "p" taker, call it what you will. But there is also a serious and fairly intelligent side to me. As such I would not normally use a site with what I see as such a potential major security issue. The fact I do, is testiment to what a fab group of people BM members are and what is otherwise a brilliant site. I dont mind stating publicly that i think you have done a cracking job and should be justifiably very proud of it..

I think you've got the photo viewing option spot on Matt. If peeps want to view a profile sneakily by logging out it's only fair that if they're nosey or actually interested enough they should log in or become full members to view profile photo's. There's goto be an insentive to actually sign up. No point in having a viewing log just to have peeps able to circumvent it completely.

The balance has to be between what guests (Including search engines!) can see and what you need to login to see. People need to be able to run searches to see what's on offer before they sign up. Similarly they want to read the forums to see what people are like, view the calendar to see how active the site is, etc. Once they can see the site's good they will create an account. Google rarely gets as deep as the profile photos so I'm locking them down so only those logged in can see.

Matt........i would like to lend my support to the views expressed by vfr400paul ...........and add my own .........personally..... i would prefer the whole of the website to be accessed only by persons who have the faith to take out a subcription, even if thats a trial period only, your subcription rates are set very low considering anyway....... it undervalues everyone/thing the site stands for by giving it away!

Claissa, There's nothing I'd like more that for everyone to pay! haha Unfortunately you have to give some access to public/guest visitor, for 2 big reasons... 1) Search engines need to be able to index your site! You cannot give google a username and password to use the site, they simply scan all the text and images. Therefore you have to make as much as possible available for search engines without giving them too much access 2) People need to see what's on offer before they will sign up. 99% of those who create an account have already run a search to find someone they like (Or viewed the forums to see if they like the community, events etc). Similarly, people will only pay if there's that little bit extra which they want/need (like being able to upload more photos, contact people directly, etc). Believe me, I've tried many options over the past year... locking down the whole site doesn't work, nobody will even create an account.
