Motorcyclists are half as likely as other road users to drink-drive, according to recent figures released by the MCI.

The latest drink-drive statistics show of the motorcycle riders tested following an accident in 2008, 1.4 per cent failed a breathalyser test compared to an average of 2.7 per cent for all road user casualties as a whole.

Motorcyclists aged between 20 and 24 were most likely to fail a breath test, with 2.4 per cent of tests taken by riders in this age band positive for alcohol. However, this figure is still less than half that of the average for all road users between 20 and 24, of whom 5 per cent gave a breath test positive for alcohol.

tbh I'm suprised it's as much as half. Riding a bike tends to make folk much more aware of what they're doing.

"tbh I'm suprised it's as much as half" I'm not. Have you tried getting a can of Stella inside your helmet? (And I don't mean a HFG in a can!)

test positive for alcohol doesn't mean over the limit though. Could have just a half shandy and that would show a reading.

No matter to me riding or driving, if I am going to have a drink the only keys I take out are my front door keys Ian laughs cos all my bike & car keys are each on little clips that are easy to remove from my main bunch of keys but that way I dont have to fight to get them off the ring if I dont need them.

I never ever drink and drive...a close friend of mine at school was killed by a drunk driver..

I personally would never do it. I do not want to lose my license nor would I want to injure or kill either myself or others....

I usually drive anyway so don't bother with drinking. When I do, it's usually an overnight stay and even at that I'll stop drinking by about 11pm on the night. Rarely drive the day after.

There is a growing movement against bike's in the UK whilst the government has a happy smile for all to see behind the scenes its very different due to safety reports and papers that are coming from top level people in Europe. The trend is now to fudge such as the drink drive breath test report by saying ( as MATT pointed out ) THEY TESTED POSITIVE BUT DID NOT FAIL but the biker/drink drive head line has already made an impact and this trend is worrying because i believe at some point they the government will put heavy restrictions or even try to ban motorcycling, sorry to be long winded.
