This weekend, Moonstone and I will be staying at my caravan in Essex. We'll be going to the bikers' café at Burnham-On-Crouch on Sunday (27th September) at around 11:00 am. So if anyone from BM is in the area, maybe you would like to meet up with us. We're planning to ride around the Dengie peninsula (between the Crouch estuary in the South and the Blackwater estuary in the North) afterwards, visiting the RAF Memorial at Bradwell in the shadow of the decommissioned power station - a very atmospheric location.
Feel free to PM either of us if you would like to know more but before Friday since I haven't got a computer connection at the caravan. Hopefully, we'll see some of you at the Cabin Dairy Tea Rooms in downtown Burnham.
I think you'll all find that Burnham is not your conventional seaside resort where rock is sold. It's well up the Crouch estuary rather than directly on the coast. You may be getting it confused with Burnham-On-Sea which is 200 miles or so to the West. Still, one could say that Burnham rocks since it's such a spiffing place - as is most of that area.
It's a bit disappointing that there are no takers so far, so who wants a short tour of the Dengie Peninsula?
For the uninitiated, Burnham-On-Crouch is in Essex south east of Chelmsford. There are several major estuaries starting with the Thames at the south of the county followed by the Crouch further North and the Blackwater north of that where Maldon lies. Further North there's Harwich. The Blackwater and Crouch are noted for their leisure boating activity and wildlife with a number of egrets to be found. A number of sailing barges are based in Maldon and regularly sail along the Blackwater estuary past Clackton and along the coast.
