Google cable oilers and it comes up with a shed load of them. Should think someone will soon come up with some recommendations.

This might be a silly question julie but the cables in question, are they exspensive to replace in comparison to buying oil etc???? Not that this helps in any way!!!!

There are two types, the one made out of brass that screws in and out and forces oil down a cable and anything from about £15 upwards, and then there's the smaller type that connects to a can of WD40 or whatever and is maybe about £7.
Just be a little careful cos some modern cables have Teflon liners which can swell when oil is introduced and make things even worse!
I'd got for the screw-in ones, but they're mucky devices to use.
Try an old-fashioned back-street shop, or Hein Gericke if there's one near you, probably in Leeds, cos i know they do them.
Anyone near you going to Stafford this weekend? That's the place to get one cheap-ish. I'd get one myself for you, but it seems an awful long way round to do it.

Personally I've found a bit of plastacene made into a funnel shape around one end of a cable then hang the cable above a container pour said oil into funnel and leave gravity to do the work lol. But to be honest not bothered with cable lubing (same clutch cable on bike for 4 years!!!) no rev cable as is electronic, speedo cable as mentioned before tend to have a low drag lining due to them being in constant use.
