The ctrl and C buttons don't do anything for me, I use the ctrl and A buttons to highlight the text.
Cataraptor, for some odd reason my 'copy' doesn't appear in my drop down menu, just the 'paste' option.
When a post disappears if u have not copied or forgot to copy , use the back button , it will take you back to the page that you wrote your post , refresh page(does not lose post) , re-post , works 4 me anyway I still use copy n paste to be on the safe side .
THAT'S TWICE IN QUICK SUCCESSION!!! First post of this got lost, and I got dumped back to Page 1 of the thread.
Blows my theory out of the water, as no-one else has posted on this thread while I was typing :-(
Try again...
This has just happened to me "on the new server" :-(
Was doing the speed test for Matt, and started typing my results. Went to the BT web site to check how fast my line should be, and then to my ISP to check what my package was.
All told, about 5 minutes, all in separate tabs.
Posted the message and NOTHING!
What had happened though, was that Wannabe had posted between the time I'd started writing, and the time I'd finished.
Is the posting code grabbing an "index" variable telling it what the next post is, and then if someone else posts whilst you're typing and uses your "slot" then it disappears????
Ian
nope, definitely not.
When you his Post Message, it posts the form (your message box) back to the page. At which point the server takes the content, create's a new topic/subject, takes the topic's ID and then posts a new post within that topic ID. All in less than a millisecond.
There's no slots, and nobody else is able to affect your posts.
I had this once last week on the old server.... and I've absolutely no idea what on earth is causing it.
It's about 1,400 lines of code too I need to go over with a fine toothcomb. I'll do it tomorrow if it's quiet at work ;-)
Tip: ALWAYS copy your post to the clipboard before posting! CTRL+A, CTRL+C and then post. If you need to go back, you just press CTRL+V in the text box to paste in your text again. Keeps all your formatting too
Sod this I'm printing it, gonna go blind looking at this text lol.
can't believe i wrote this junk, it's so messy (I never comment my code, bad practice I know)
Had it happen a few times today, but paging back has worked every time, so it's not too much of a bother... way less bother than fine toothcombing 1,400 lines of code... rather you than me Matt!
think i've figured it out.
Question: Does it do it with NEW TOPICS or just NEW POSTS?
Another: Does it do it only for long posts that take a while to type?
Another: Is it at any particular time of the day/night?
Never had it happen yet with a new topic, only new posts.
I've had it happen at all hours and for all lengths of posts... Most frequently if the threads gone over a couple of pages though and I've checked back over them to catch up on posts.
ok i think it's fixed. You will no longer loose new posts.
looks like new TOPICS weren't a problem.
The editing of posts must be complete within 20 minutes. i.e. If you load the 'Edit' page, then take 25 minutes composing your new message... it will be lost.
